Default cfl proxmity to plants

Ok so I know the lower watt cfls can get close to the plants and should be at 2-3 inches away

But what about the higher wattage cfls like 65 watt and above. They put out alot more heat.

For now I have fans blowing on them

You put your hand there..if too hot for BACK of hand its too hot for baby... those bigger watt CFLs aren't like the smaller..so you have to check.. the "close as you can " is relative to watts...... I'd say 6-8"... at least .. if you see stretching move light accordingly... Luck.
