Question 2700k while vegging
So I'm very new but tons of info gained from everybody already. Thanks in advance. I have some week old babies and I just picked up two 65w (300 equiv.) 2700k CFLs to add to my 6500k lighting. The question is, should I throw them in there right now or save them for flowering. I have more blue right now but these are two huge bulbs in there. Should I wait to use them just for flowering? Is 600 equivalent watts of 2700k a waist to shine on vegging plants?

In addition to the new giant CFLs I have two 26W 65k, 1 ReptiGlo 2.0, and an 18 inch flouro that has proved itself on saving dying houseplants and helping healthy plants thrive. Do I need more 65k? Thanks again, 1st time around here.

T.

Depends on how many plants you have. If you have just a few, save the 2700Ks for the flowering stage, it's pretty much a waste of power since in vegetative growth the range of light from 2700Ks is not very useful to the plant. Good luck with your grow.

I have 9 seedlings from good bagseed right now and I'm hoping to harvest any and all healthy fems. I'm in a fairly tight spot and have a mylar insulated windshield cover reflecting all light back on the babies. So there is no point to even have them on the plants at this stage?

Well, a part of the light spectrum from 2700Ks is useful for the plants even in vegetative growth. It's a small portion, though, so if you don't mind the extra power usage, feel free to use them. More light is always useful. A lot of CFL growers actually prefer to mix both 2700K and 6500K lights in both the flowering and vegetative stage. Basically, the only problem with using 2700Ks during the vegetative stage is the power consumption to usefulness ratio. If you don't mind the extra power consumption, you're all good.

For the very little useful light that the 2700 k produce for veg it will raise your temps and give you very very very little additional light compared to the 7500..or daylight cfl.. kinda like dropping in a 100 watt incadescent bulb.. From experience If you want to suppliment the light temp grab full spectrum 3500-4500 they emit both the vegging spectrum and flowering spectrum in equal lengths. Personally I use only 2700 for flowering and 7500 and 3500 for vegging... GL Growth speed
