Im not trying to have anyone do my research for me as I have searched for soil and nute info but if anyone can give me a brief overview of what kind of soil I should get (Home Depot brands) and what and when do i need to start nutes? Any help is appreciated.

Ok, I am also a newbie but I have done my homework on most of the basics. I do know that getting gardening supplies from Home Depot this time of year is not that easy. You are probably better off going to a hydroponics store or online for soil and nutes unless you plan on using Scott's products like Miracle Gro.

I started off using Miracle-Gro moisture control but many will give poor feedback on MG products. They worked OK for me but I am pretty sure that the soil was not sterilized and I had a bug infestation. Not positive it was the MG but I think it was. Also, you will find that u will probably want to add your own nutes and MG has time-release so u can't add anything without totally burning the ladies. Otherwise I would say to research on making your own soil cuz u can get the ingredients at the Depot to mix ur own. ViRedd on this forum had this mixture listed for a good mix...Hope this helps! 2 parts Schultz's Potting Soil Plus.
1 part Perlite.
1 part Vermiculite.
1 part Worm Castings.
1 SMALL handful of Granulated Dolimite Lime per TWO gallons of mix.

i would suggest
Peat Moss 4 parts
Perlite 2 parts
mushroom compost 1 part
and some lime
Those can all be bought at Home depot, you might have to go to Lowes if you have one. I have also found worm casting tea at Home Depot

I dont like MG with moisture control, but have used MG potting soil with 3 mon feed for several years now, no problems. I add one tablespoon of granulated dolimite lime to each 3 gal bucket. Feed only once at 1/4 strength, during veg, just before switching to 12/12s. 2 wks after flowers show, feed bloom food, 1 table spoon to 2 gal water, every 3rd watering. At 5-6 wks flowering I like to put in 1/8 cup apple juice,per 2 gal water, instead of nutes for flushing purposes LOL and Grow Yer Own

I'AM ALSO A ROOKIE ,2ND CLOSET GRO,GREAT RESULTS WITH FOX FARM PRODUCTS,WITH 4 4' T5s AND A FEW XTRA CFLs THROWN INTO THE MIX...GOOD LUCK..PEACE
