I just purchased 3 42w and 4 26w CFL's from my HD [which is about an hour away, ugh!], and completely spaced and forgot to check color rating. I just checked and they're all 2700k... AND, on top of that, i already opened them so i don't think they can be returned!
What would happen if i use these to veg? I am only planning on vegging ~3 plants for about 2 weeks, or 4 nodes, and then putting directly into flower, and then sexing and removing males. I don't want to have to go back to HD just to get more CFLs if i don't COMPLETELY need them... So bottom line, what are going to be the effects of using 2700k instead of 6500k?

i mistakenly used 2700s for two weeks of veg on my first grow...
next time around, i had it right, and compared: under the 6500ks, they grew at least 100% faster. just buy some 6500ks. you're really screwing yourself if you don't. you can keep the reds for flowering... you can never have enough CFLs, really. just have the right spectrum for the phase you're in :] |

Like how much better? which one causes less stretching and more, quicker growth? 6500k?

Like how much better, in terms of stretching and growth rate?

realy, it kinda depends on the strain. indicas are going to like red spectrum lights a little more, because they originate in temperate climate zones far north of the equator, the red spectrum comes from the sunlight being filtered through more atmosphere at an oblique angle. the sativa strains will like blue light better and have a tendency to auto flower because in equatorial regions the days stay pretty much the same length the whole year round as does the climate. the indicas flower faster and are more sensitive to changes in photoperiod becasue longer nights means winter is coming. thats my take on the thing.

Well when i started my first grow a few weeks ago i bought a 2700 bulb and a 4 pack of them too without looking to see what they were. I tried those to veg and it was working but very slow. I then bought a 4 pack of 23w 6500k and they work sooooo much better. I dropped one and broke it so im using 3 6500k and 1 2700k but its looking very nice. Go to walmart or Kmart or target or anything like that, whatever is closest, and they should have some cfl's. Almost everywhere has them now i think.

I have found that some 2700k cfls actually have a good amount of blue in them already. Buy the time you buy enough 2700k bulbs to flower with there should be enough blue to veg them as well, within certain limits of course. You will just need to spend some time researching them and getting their spectral output charts.
