when i bought all my cfl's i couldnt find where it said if it was 2700k or 6500k. I recently found out that they are all 2700k. I have 5 - 23w that are 2700k, will they still work for veg? How much of a difference will it be from using 6500k?

they will definitely still work the more light the better, but i would definitely suggest daylight 6500k bulbs more for veg because the plant uses more of that spectrum during that time. i have a 12 bulb setup right now w/ 6 of each bulb that i plan to use the entire time.

but what hes asking is why? what happens if you don't use 6500k?

nothing you just won't get as much growth during the vegetative stage

for my first grow, i didn't know about 2700 vs 6500k. so for two weeks, i had four plants under all red cfls... they didn't grow much, but they did grow.

you need 6500k during veg. you can mix some reds in, if you want. it's actually probably better that way because it simulates nature more.

i started my first cfl grow with 42 watt 2700k cfls and it grew really slow and ended burning the tips of the leaves...so i switched to all 6500k bulbs and no bullshit with in a week it had grown twice as big as it took to grow in a month with the 2700ks...i tried mixing the 2700ks and the 6500ks together and all it did was made the leaves twist towards the 6500ks...i would deff keep them all 6500k until you get ready to flower and then gradually add the 2700ks...

i had 4 high kelvin bulbs during veg and the plants were happy and growing fast. I wanted them to be happier and so i added two 2700k bulbs for more spectrum. The growth slowed down SO much and the leaves lost their deep green color after a few days. So i removed the 2700 bulbs and the plants got dark green again and took off.

man i'm glad somebody else has figured that out too...i was thinking it was just me after reading alot of other input on here..hehe

that makes sence, mine arent growing very fast at all with the 2700k's on it. Im gonna go back to the store and try to find some 6500k lights. I got the 2700 because, well first off i didnt know they were 2700 and 2nd it was like 7.99 for a 4 pack at menards.
