First time grower. I have 3 week old seedlings under this light

I had planned on using these dimensions for my grow cabinet, but i'm getting concerned the light i want to use doesn't produce enough lumens for its size
Dimensions Are:
Length - 36"
Width - 21"
Height - 50"

Can I get away with this http://htgsupply.com/viewproduct.asp?productID=49242 T5 that only produces 12,000 lumens?

I will cover everything in mylar.

welp t5s are nice i have one sitting around gonna install it sideways on a wall but how many plannts are you growing im doing 15 under 575 actuall watts 18 bulbs= about 30,000 lumens and they are exploding id say u can put as many plants that fits under it at first but then ull have to get some clfs for sides or put cfls on top and the t5 on the side its good to get 360 deg of light all around the plant but id say ur good with that for 2-4 weeks maybe get some parts at home depo (water proof light socket 5$) cord 50c a foot rececptical end 2$ and a 2 way splitter 2$ and its great can put them anywhere h

I will be starting with 8, but only finish what turns out female of course

so say i end up with 4 plants

i can keep the lights only 3" away....im hoping with everything covered in mylar and being able to keep the light close and doing sea of green method using that light will work fine

there wont be much to penetrate so it should be good

That T-5 is a nice start for a first grow. I would try and veg them a short amount of time to keep them short, because that light will not penitrate deep into a large plant. Maybe veg for 10-14 days, Then clip off the bottom 1.4 of the branches and fan leafs seeing they will not get light anyway. You are also going to want to get a few 43 watt cfls as monster suggested. They will bud pretty good, this is what I did for my first crop, but by the time I hit 4 weeks, I saw these nice buds and I could not help but go buy a 400 watt HPS. I don't have enough height for a 400w hps...unless i did a cool tube...which i cannot have all the cooling necessary for that setup

i plan on doing SOG and the bottom stuff will all be trimmed off...i understand i won't get the best...but then again i dont have ideal conditions to make a cabinet like i really want....gotta make do for now....will this setup produce some decent green?

i will be attempting to keep the plants under 20" tall....so having the light 3" away and doing SOG only having a main cola with not many leaves im thinking it should get decent bud...but i want to make sure

You want to keep them under 20 inches tall? Then read this thread. Clone to Flowering (LollyPopp'n) You do have to understand. A plant with the correct inviroment will grow a lot in the first 10 days. But most new growers do multiply things wrong. So the plant has slow growth. For a new grower, do not gauge it to be 10 days. Gauge it to get the plants to about 6-8 inches, top them, let them recover about 3 days, then snip the lowerbranches, BUT ONLY IF YOU HAVE A NICE FAT FULL PLANT. Not some bean pole. To tell you the truth. Maybe you should just veg it to 8 INCHES tall and then flower it, No Snipping. Maybe top it. I would hate for you to RAPE your plants like the one guy who snipped every single fan leaf off his plant. It looked like a bald chicken. Go easy, go Slow, just get through the first harvest.

I had planned on flowering once they got to 8" or so =]

I just planned on trimming the lower branches like described in ali b's harvest every 2 week thread

i think it will be fine for the space you have

Did some thinking about it today.

Will be mounting a 6 bulb t5 up top...produces 12,000 lumens....will mount my current 4,000 lumen t5's on the back of the box...

then down the road i always have the option of adding 2 6 bulb t5's to each side of the case...

if i did that id end up with 40,000 lumens...so room for improvement does exist =]
