Day 5, just switched to CFLs, pics included.

I'm on day 5 and I just switched over to CFLs.. I'm using

2 42W(2700Lumens)
2 26W(1750Lumens)
For a total of nearly 9 thousand lumens.. Since I've switched from AgroSHIT-Light just this morning I've already noticed a large difference in the growth of the plants.. Here's my setup.
I got the 42s in the front with the 26s in the back, couldn't find a real socket for the lights so I had to attach them to an extension cord and then hang the extension cord lol. Here are the pics-

Nice setup. If you goto walmart in the hardware section you can buy shop lights that have the reflector and the socket/cord, everything you need to setup a cfl for only 6 dollars. Lowes, Home Depot, and Ace Hardware any many more stores you can find them...

Put your lights way lower. You have a case of the stretchies........

Yeah if you can't lower the lights just use something under the pots to prop them up closer to the light and youll be good

Oh.. and lumens dont add up. You have a total of 2700 lumens... However, your plants are probably getting less thant 1500 lumens considering they are a mile away from your bulbs.

Lumens do add. You should read this. Lumens, lux, and adding it all up.

He's refering to the luminoux flux... which is 8900 Lumens

about the stretching...if your plants do strech and you have room in your pot, is it ok to just add more dirt to make them shorter?...i've done this with some of my plants just to make them stronger and it seemed to work out ok.

Also seen threads using a light meter where you can turn on 50 lights and it's the same lumens.

I was growing on a window cill and my plants stretched.. I did just as you described and it turned out fine.. However, why would you want your plants to stretch? Sure you could buy the stalk more.. but the plant is using it's energy to stretch rather than grow branches.

In reality the lights are actually only about 2 inches away from the plants, if that.. The arial veiw makes them look much farther than that.. The stretchies are from the agroshit-light. These lights should fix em nice
