ok so im starting a new grow with only 2 plants misty from nirvana ive already grown this befor for my first grow as thios will be my 2nd grow and i plan on buying 4x 42 watt 6500k and 4x 42 watt 2100k wich comes out to 21600 lumens and i plany on buying the 3 socket bathroom setup from wallmart and puttin double sockets in each on and in the middle one put 2 double sockest in there so i have have four in the middle and 2 on each side i will be buying present wrapping paper mylar because its cheap and i do not want to use 23 watt cfls because i need more lumens with less CFL how does this sound????

It is a little difficult to figure, but, you are trying to achieve is at least 5000 lumens per square foot of plant surface. From what you have said, you will accomplish this goal.

i think u need to do some reading... because they do n if that was all that u were going to say than dont even post here asshole but thnx mockinbird and i thought it was originally 10,000 so i was always trippen on that

From what I've read on these forums, lumens do NOT add. Several tests have been made using varying lumen outputs from different lights. One gent on here even took two 1600 Lumen CFL's, and put them in a million different positions. He used a light meter to measure from each one....Low and behold, it read 1600 lumens everytime.

When you take 2 1600 Lumen CFL's, they will have a light measurement of 3200 lux, which is what you get when you add the lumens of multiple bulbs together. They will still be 1600 lumens, but at 3200 lux.

Example-

2x 1600 lumen CFL's=3200 lux
2x 1000 lumen CFL's=2000 lux.
Combined this is still a maximum of 1600 lumens, but they would have a total of 5200 lux.

If this is incorrect, I do apologize. Just giving my input from what I've read so far. I'm a noob, but I'm trying to learn & help =D

well i was really never quit sure my self and always went by what others have expiremented so what ur telling me is plants respons more to lux than lumens??? and will plants still stretch if i use a 2700 lumen light bulb ???

... and the great debate rages on. OK, it is generally believed that 5000 lumens per square foot is about minimum. Outdoor, at noon, in the midwest, on a clear day is about 10,000 lumens. So you want to be somewhere between these two extremes.

Light engineers find watts to be a more useful for an on the run sort of general measure. With fluorescents, you want at least 20 watts per square foot of plant surface. But, that is only a general rule. Room color, light reflection, nutrient levels, and other issues affect the welfare of your plants.

So, it is an educated guess that you have enough light now. But, add more bulbs as the plants grow.

I just did some reading I have one pic that shows 2 lights on then only one and the lumen meter reads pretty much the same. Theres another thread on here with a similar pic that shows different readings with 1 and 2 lights. Oh well its not that big of a deal as longs as the plants stay green right? no real need to call anyone an asshole.

Your getting tops 2800 lumens TOPS with those 42 watts. if you want more lumens then check this out 105 Watt Compact Fluorescent 5000K Full Spectrum CFL.
1. It has almost 3 times the lumens you have in those 42 watts
2. It screws into a regular socket
3. Its full spectrum.

For vegging use 6500K or 5000K considered full spectrum and for flowering use the 2700K bulbs.
At all cost try to stay away from the 3000k 3100k 4000k 4100k those are more in between spectrums and your plants will not like them as much.

i know man read the post above that i made i never really nerw until the day u said suttin i was juss in a bad ass mode that day dont trip its all good and its ther LUX that adds but o well and yea the greener the better
