I am using 3 of these and a 23 watt daylight for flowering; it is working but I don't have any results yet for plants grown correctly from the start.

Mine cost me about 9 dollars each at the hardware store; 2700k range is the 'interior' bulbs NOT the daylight bulbs. They DO put out HEAT! The ballast does if nothing else, not like an incandescent but they DO generate heat... in an enclosed space you will need ventilation. I highly recommend hooded fixtures or a large hooded fixture that you can put two of them in with a Y socket... hooded is very important as it more than double the light going DOWN onto the plants instead of rafting it up into nothing - CFL's are 360 degree bulbs and a lot is wasted without reflectors; check the grow logs, the people using mylar and hoods have WAY better results.

I posted a thread on the color temps of generic brand bulbs, if you are interested: http://www.rollitup.org/cfl-growing/...eir-color.html

Your going to get "some heat" bro, its not ice cold lol And who said anything bout hoods? This is ONLY bulbs no hoods were mentioned in my post. But if ya want the truth white poster board or white walls reflect VERY well. Well anyways like I said this was ONLY for the bulbs, was never meant to go into such detail. People can make up their own minds as to hoods. In my honest opinion $5.99 beats $9.00 all day long......Wow, maybe less coffee before you post, dunno where that all came from anyways.. Sheesh!

if you insist on using cfls.....23w is the best way to go......you get more lumens per watt than any other cfl.....so eventhough the 42w is only 5.99 you have to use more power from those to equal the light output of a 23w..so you will save more money in the longrun from a 23w.....just saying...be informed before you buy lights....or else you spend way more than you have to......

I have a lot of vertical space but not a lot of length or width so for me it makes a bit more sense.

Hey there Nick, I just had a peek at 23 watt vs. 42 watt as far as lumens go and it says that 23 watt lumen output is 1600 while the 42 watt is 2600. But I do see what yer saying, the energy cost would be lower. You make a really good point there bro, since my grow is smaller scale the 23 watt maybe the better choice for me. Thanks for the good info and for looking out. <EDIT> Ahhhh ok ok, now I see what your saying Nick. I did the math and what you posted is 100% correct. The 23W puts out 69 Lumens per watt and the 46W puts out 64 Lumens per watt. Bless you mate for the good info, you rock!! May your buds be sweet and strong!!! <3

When you factor in the added cost of additional fixtures and the cost of electrical resistance through more lights and wires and likely added heat from all of that I bet you are really not coming out ahead with lower wattage lights - not to mention the extra space needed.

how do you figure....the 23w gives more energy per watt....period....thus more efficient.....you are better off with 2 23s than one 42....one 42w gives you 2800 lumens 2 23w give you 3200 lumens....thats 400 extra lumens for the 4 extra watss with the 2 23s....as far as heat and resistance and space......are you serious...these are cfls not HID...
