How many watts

Just started to germinate my seeds and i was thinking of putting them under CFL's for 2 weeks and was wondering how many watts would you need to keep around 30 seedlings going for 2 weeks before i put them outside.

Any help would be great.

Thanks.

hey,
Dont think at that stage its a question about watts more about placement/area and you will need quite alot of cfls to cover 30 seedling thus higher wattage...

I would not bother using cfls at this stage if you have so many, a T5 ot T8 tube or two would work best so your looking at 30 - 80 watts. Far less than if you used cfls

I would plan on growing so many unless you got alot of space and money. Those T5 and T8 tubes will not grow a plant very far, the produce not near enough lumens.

Thanks for the reply's DMGIX & SayNoToDrugs.

Here's some more information:

My area size is 3x3x6. I also have 400w HPS, the lady at my local store said i can use a 250w MH bulb in this, would i be better off with the 250w MH?

U also said i could use a T5 OR T8 Tube or maybe two, are they 30 or 80 watts each?

With that much room and that light you can grow 4 awsomely sized plants. I wouldnt try to squeeze in anymore.

Oh, and the Mh bulb should be used in growth stage 24/0 or 18/6. Then use the hps bulb when you switch to 12/12 for flowering. This is the best way to maximize plant size and yeild. But if you can only get one get the HPS.

Thanks SayNoToDrugs.

Do you think the 250w MH will keep around 30 seedlings going for about 2 weeks in a area 3x3x6 before i put them outside?

Has soon as i have the outdoor strains sorted i will try some indoors, was thinking of 4-5 plants. What other size of a area would you get away with using a 400w HPS? would 3x4x6 work?

Thanks again.

If its just for seedling in the 1st 2 weeks before going outside the T5 or T8 work very well as they dont produce very much heat at all (olny the ends get slightly hot) they could even touch the bulb. I put mine under 1 T5 30w that and they came out well, check out my 1 female i got out of 5.

I'm not using HID's but what SayNoToDrugs says is right. But i would say use both HPS and MH for flowering if you can. I was doing some research on UVB lights and its this light that helps the produces more THC (Outside there is more UVB light, pretty much the nearer you are the equator/strongest plants come from these regions)
Anyway, MH lights are the only HID's that produce some of this spectrum.

DMGIX has the right idea about the T5 and T8. I didnt realize you were gonna put them outside. And what the UVB lights do is not quiet giving it more THC but better resin production with fatter pistils and such. Thats more on the advanced side though, i would just worry about getting your seedlings big and strong for the outdoors. And also, if you want you can use you grow light for the seedlings but you must keep it very far away. Like 40 inches or so.

And yeah, your light could cover about six decent plants by the way. If i was you i would take advantage of that light and just try indoor growing.
