it really all comes down to how much you wanna spend. i ran cfls as a newbie i got good smoke but, again, nothing compares to the chunky buds u get with hps. an hps 400w will give you about 55000 lumens. you would need 35 - 23w cfls to equal the light output. thats 805 watts. Hps will always be more efficient. if you decide to go up in watttage on the cfl (42w or 65w) you still have heat issues in a small closet. if you have a big room might as well go with the hid lights. Just my opinion.

most I've ever gotten using CFL's, (6 X 42 watt 2100 K) is maybe 1/2 ounce. One plant a time. How on Earth did you get 3 ounces a plant?

cfls r the shit.. and its all about placement people there way more efficent than hps if u have enough coverage. all elemnets have to be up to par for u to achieve a good yeild 1.5 oz or more per plant i chose to use 12 35w 27k ,6 26 w 65k ,2 65 w 27k and 2 125 w 55k ..in a 4by 4 with y spliters and power stripsand hom made reflectors..

you gotta make sure ur using all the light the cfl is pushing out and make some reflectors to help with light airy nugs.. bad thing is as the plants grow u need to adjust or u will burn some leaves..

did you use those cfls throughout the whole grow? 2100k is a not much of a good choice. surely you'll get better results using 6500k bulbs for veg and 3000k bulbs for flowering

Ok I bought ho-t5's 48x24 8 bulb puts out 40,000 lumens. I have 6500k's for veg. I also have 400 watt hps for flowering. My question is why couldnt I use the t5's with 3000k bulbs and get the same result. I can fit Two T5 fixtures into a 4X4 area giving me 80,000 lumens verses 45,000 lumens from one 400 watt hps that covers 4x4 area. They say the buds are fluffy and yeald less with flo's but lumen-lumen I about double running the t5's plus less heat! Am I thinking in the right direction??? It would be nice not running the a/c 24/7..
