Sun God Komee Lights 200watt actual, 1000watt equivalent Lotus CFL Grow Bulb w/ mogul connection. It is advertised as lasting up to 12 times longer than ordinary bulbs. And the best part? It's dual spectrum, 6500k and 2700k. They have very low heat...I put my hand an inch away from the mini version of the bulb (bought one for my sterilite tubs, 125w) and barely felt anything. Box says you can use within 4 inches, have had it that close to my plants for a few hours now without any signs of stress. It can be used vertical or horizontal and puts out 15,000 lumens of useable light. It's 15 inches long and 8.5 inches wide. A seller claims they are stronger than T5s and the 250 watt Feliz. Company claims that they have the ability to increase yield by more than 30%.

I have to try this out! I love CFLs no matter how much anyone hates on them!! I have seen only one grow using these, but he had awesome buds and I'm very curious to try this out and possibly put other people onto it if it really does what it says. And please, no one ask me why I didn't just buy an HPS or HID...this is what I will be growing with, period!

The skunk has fully sprouted and is now 3 days old:

The blueberry is peeking out of the soil Will post some pics when she full unfolds. Still waiting on the Train Wreck to show. I buried her two days ago showing a taproot from paper towel germination.

I came into possession of a few more seeds

    Kannabia - Gnomo Auto (freebie)
    Kannabia - Afrodite (freebie)
    Sativa Seedbank - Raspberry Cough
    C99 (Cinderella 99)
World of seeds - Afghan Kush

    All fems!
that is a nice light, shame they are only stateside atm. i did have a look last week for a uk seller. also C99, wtf. im actually more jealous of the strain than the light. its such a nice smoke.

also i found this by the same company that makes that lotus light http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/SUNGOD-KOM...item4d000ce51c looks promising

Didn't realize they made LEDs too...interesting!

Have you smoked C99 before? What was it like? Everything I've heard about it has been highly appealing.

Again, IMHO, most folks going bigger set ups are obviously extending the hobby/natural pharmacy past personal use and entering "the twighlight zone", the professional cultivator club. For such a club, yes, HID.

LED are too expensive in the current market for most hobby users (the big watt suckers) and yes, will be the part of the true wave of the future in indoor lighting. But don't count out the CFL's. That light that Lady just bought is 200w, and is marketed and hyped to potential buyers as more efficient than HID lighting, that is to say that the light has more usable light than HID, be it MH or HPS. So does more usable light mean better yield, bigger buds than HID of the same wattage? Who's to say, since we are at the seedling stage if you will of CFL technology.

I have seen some phucking incredible grows with just CFL. I mean amazing. I am assuming many of us have, being in the CFL part of the forums and advocating their use. What I have yet to see (and oh, am I sooo interested), is the same plants (F1 only and we are talking STABLE here) from seed, say 6, grown in same exact style cabs (3 plants per), one with HID (lets go HPS) and one with high watt CFL (same exact actual watts). Something like this: someone sets up this controlled test study, and uses 400w HPS, and say 2 200w CFL's (lets go with brand/style/watt Lady just bought) and grow em out. Veg em for same periond, and smae with flower. Document every single day with photos. A controlled study. I bet it has been done, but I have yet to see such a thread, on any online forum, using the same exact set up, feeding, temp, medium, ph, the whole thing, other than the lights being different. Now, that gets me exited thinking about it and would certainly classify for me as a MUST READ!! I have come accross many a thread that say they have done this, but I find that all of them fall flat in one way or the other because it was not absolutely controlled or excat deplicate of each other...as in the lights didnt add up to exact wattage....things like that. It has to be done by someone who knows what they are doing and can control the whole process in all areas of the grow.

Please hear me out HID Greeners, I am NOT dissing HID. We know what they do, and they are awesome (hot as hell, but awesome). But it would not suprise me that in 5 years, 10 years, etc., there is a shift and techno advance in indoor lighting that makes the current ML, HPS obsolete. But hey, I have been wrong before on many O things in my life, and that trend is likely to continue until I go the the BIG Field of Green (I mean Dreams) in the sky.

BTW Cloud, subbed your grow bro. Sow em and grow em!

I feel you 100% on this Hazey. Was just looking at this vid yesterday that you might find interesting:

used both cfl and hps, you can get some great results with cfl however some things to note..

Two things people complain about hps is running cost and heat.
It's generally known that cfl's are more effective if smaller bulbs with greater numbers are used to surround the plants with light from different heights and angles (read Buds for Less - first review)

however most individuals who work full time jobs generally do not have time to fuck around moving multiple bulbs multiples times a day
so for some people an alternative is to use a single large CFL (200w+) and possibly supplement with a bit of side lighting

    Heat -
find most people are quite shocked at the amount of heat the larger cfl's produce, running a 300w 8u dual spec bulb in a powerplant (non aircooled) hood in a dr60 (currently in dr120 at the moment) with a 5" fan, temps usually sat around 28C (82F) mark, by adding a 125w red spec CFL to the equation this immediately pushed the temps to around 32C (90F )mark sometimes higher depending on ambient. Running a 400w HPS with the addition of a cooltube in the same tent temps rarely went above 28C (82F).

    Cost -
so another thing noticed since switching from 300w CFL (please note this IS ACTUAL not equivalent) to 400w HPS is that running costs changed only marginally (barely enough to notice), there is this common thought pattern that CFL's are way cheaper to run than HPS, granted a 250w cfl will be using slightly less than 250w, and a 250w HPS will be using slightly more.. but at the end of the day they are both drawing near on 250w, the electrical company is not going to charge you more for one or the other.

if the US average is 11c (some of you paying as little as 4c as previously mentioned) per kwH, here is a simple equation
whatever you are running eg. 400w + some fans maybe another 100w = 500w
    500w = 0.5 kw
how long you will be running for in a cycle (estimating a full cycle as 100 days for average and ease of calculations - this is just over 3 months)
    at 12-12 from seed this would be 12 x 100 = 1200 hours

so to get kwh by multiplying your kw x hours and you get 600 kwh
    11c x 600kwh = $66

so for a month that is $22
not too bad for making your own beautiful medicine.

    -------

At the end of the day CFL is a valid alternative (albeit a labour intensive one if done properly), you can get some fantastic results with them and for a percy grower with 1-2 plants it will work and work well

LED's - feel at the moment they are outrageously expensive for what you are getting

    HPS - produces, fact
that is why commercial growers still use them

*** Please note its late and may have messed up some calcs above so apologies if anything above is incorrect or bullshit

Create read mantizen +rep. You seem to have left out the most important part of LEds: purple lights. It's purple man! Hopefully pretty soon the market will become flooded like it is for CFLs and HIDs and prices will drop.

need to be careful of the cheap chinese knockoffs, make sure you are getting the correct diodes at the correct spectrums

In my humble opinion, its all about genetics, enviroment and light. Mainly genetics though. Obviously the stronger the light, the bigger the bud but you still need the genetics. CFL and LED are great for vegging but nothing compares to HID/HPS buds
