Hey Cloud, yeah, I know all about the ratios and all. All I can say is that IMHO for small scale, closet or cab grows, CFL's are the correct medicine for our medicine

Again, IMHO, most folks going bigger set ups are obviously extending the hobby/natural pharmacy past personal use and entering "the twighlight zone", the professional cultivator club. For such a club, yes, HID.
LED are too expensive in the current market for most hobby users (the big watt suckers) and yes, will be the part of the true wave of the future in indoor lighting. But don't count out the CFL's. That light that Lady just bought is 200w, and is marketed and hyped to potential buyers as more efficient than HID lighting, that is to say that the light has more usable light than HID, be it MH or HPS. So does more usable light mean better yield, bigger buds than HID of the same wattage? Who's to say, since we are at the seedling stage if you will of CFL technology.
I have seen some phucking incredible grows with just CFL. I mean amazing. I am assuming many of us have, being in the CFL part of the forums and advocating their use. What I have yet to see (and oh, am I sooo interested), is the same plants (F1 only and we are talking STABLE here) from seed, say 6, grown in same exact style cabs (3 plants per), one with HID (lets go HPS) and one with high watt CFL (same exact actual watts). Something like this: someone sets up this controlled test study, and uses 400w HPS, and say 2 200w CFL's (lets go with brand/style/watt Lady just bought) and grow em out. Veg em for same periond, and smae with flower. Document every single day with photos. A controlled study. I bet it has been done, but I have yet to see such a thread, on any online forum, using the same exact set up, feeding, temp, medium, ph, the whole thing, other than the lights being different. Now, that gets me exited thinking about it and would certainly classify for me as a MUST READ!! I have come accross many a thread that say they have done this, but I find that all of them fall flat in one way or the other because it was not absolutely controlled or excat deplicate of each other...as in the lights didnt add up to exact wattage....things like that. It has to be done by someone who knows what they are doing and can control the whole process in all areas of the grow.
Please hear me out HID Greeners, I am NOT dissing HID. We know what they do, and they are awesome (hot as hell, but awesome). But it would not suprise me that in 5 years, 10 years, etc., there is a shift and techno advance in indoor lighting that makes the current ML, HPS obsolete. But hey, I have been wrong before on many O things in my life, and that trend is likely to continue until I go the the BIG Field of Green (I mean Dreams) in the sky.
BTW Cloud, subbed your grow bro. Sow em and grow em!
Later
