My First Grow: Bagseed, all CFL

Hello Everyone,

First I would like to thank the community for all the advice I have gotten second hand by reading through these posts. I welcome any and all feedback and advice! In an ideal world, this will the first of 4 grows I am planning.

1. this grow, which will hopefully give me at least 1 good mom for
2. my second grow, which will be a set of clones from this grow + the selected mom if i get one
3. White widow from seed, select 1 female + 1 male for breeding more seeds
4. White Widow clone grow.

I constructed my grow room in an unfinished eve of my attic. I put up paint-able wall covering that is flat white over the insulation and I have a heater going as it is still a little cold here.

For Veg. I am using 6 23 watt 6500k cfl

For flower i will use 12 23 watt Soft white CFL, i still need to build this fixture.



We germinated 13 seeds in a paper towel on Sunday. By Tuesday night 11 had popped, and we planted. The last two popped this morning and we planted those. There are 14 cups because I lost my place while planting, and wasn't sure which one was empty, so i added a cup instead of making a mistake

looks like you got the setup on point for your first grow. then comes learning about watering, pH, nutrients, all that jazz. Where are you getting your WW seeds from?

Congratulations on starting your First Grow Mate Your now One Step closer to being Self Sufficient
If i could make 2 Suggestions though it would be:
1. Where the Pink Fibre Glass is showing on the roof, you need to cover or Tape it up as you Don't want to be Smoking That when your Girls are Finished. Fibre Glass will blow around very easily even in the slightest of breezes.
2. Your Home made Reflector is Great for a Temporary measure but i would recommend that you get or make a Proper one as you will need all the Lumins possible when using CFL's imo. Better still, get an HPS if you can afford to run one?

Thanks for the input:

1. I didnt think of the stuff outside the finished grow room getting in.. I will address this thanks, i def. dont want to smoke fiberglass!
2. This home made one is going to go in my (planned) veg box for moms and a (planned) daisy cloner. I am still going to make a home made fixture for my 12 cfls, but i just am not sure what configuration to use. With all the supplies i have gotten i am almost into this for $200 now. I also have a habit of not continuing my hobbies, so just in case i am going homemade and cheap. I also have some minor safety concerns over HPS in the space i have. I dont think i would do much more then a 150watt, but I have read elsewhere that they are not really worth it below 250watt. Right now I am experimenting and will sink more dough and time into it as we go along I think.

Thanks for the Rep and the advice. This is exactly why I started this thread, this community rocks and has always been welcoming to us noobs.

I sure hope so! I germinated 13 bagseeds (all from one QP) in a towel thinking I MIGHT get 8, and then hopefully get 3-4 girls. No way did I think all 13 pop would come up! Lets see what comes up!

Nice! I'm digging the lightbox you got going on. Seems like you're off to a good start, can't wait to see how it turns out!
I have a small closet grow I started last week with 2 White Rhino & 2 Moby Dick, also doing the solo cup & CFL thing.

Have you already got plans for adapting your setup as they get bigger, as far as lighting and containers?

Hey Man,

Watering is what I am mainly worried about at this point. I keep ruining my outside tomatoes by over and under watering. The weather doesn't help. Im curioius to know if i should be watering, or just letting them sit. Its pretty warm and dry in there right now...

For the containers I will be using 2 liter bottles with the same 2 part soil 1 part Perlite mix. I have 6 sockets like the one you see in the light box above that I will be attaching y-connectors to, giving me 12 23watters in there. I will also be using 3 lamps, 1 with a 65 watt, 2 with 2 23 watt for side lighting. My plan is to trim to focus on the cola, like something i saw in a hempy SOG grow in another thread here. I have not decided if i am going to wait till maturity to flower, or if I am going to force flower early. Depends on how they come up I think, they only have about 2 1/2 feet before the light.

This is the third reason that I chose hydro instead of soil...but u got a nice set up and Damn nice area to grow +rep good luck

meet 1a and 1b! Sprouted this afternoon.

looking good man, i remember my first grow(s) took me a while to get my setup to where i wanted it and i had nowere near the amount of space you have. best of luck man.

Hey Everyone!

Just thought I would post a quick update. As of tonight 9 of my 13 germinated seeds have sprouted. I have labeled them all 1-H through 1-I in the order in which they sprouted. Yes, I have been obsessively checking on them and do know what order they sprouted in, but hell its my first grow cut me some slack



in pictures 1 and 2 above you can see one of the sprouts it about twice the size of the others. Is this a good plant, or is this stretching indicating a lighting problem? Comments welcome!

look good man, the one your talking about might be a little stretched but nothing to really worry about at this point, maybe move your lights a little closer(cfls can be really colose to a plant before it hurts them in any way) how long do you plan on veging for?

Ideally I will wait for maturity (sex to show) before swapping to 12/12 as this is my first grow. However it really depends on the plants, if it looks like they are going to be huge I may just 12/12 them at 8-10in.

They look really good. 10 out of 13 planted have come up. They are about 1 week now since sprout. all green and working on their second set of leaves.

Is there any way to tell strain (indica vs sativa) this early in the game?

not that i know of unfortunately still a little early. do you have a seperate cab for flowering or are you just going to switch all your plants over at the same time?

They are actually in what will be my flowering area. My intent is to do this as close to a SOG as possible without using clones, but that's getting ahead of myself. Given Papapayne's results with seeds (he got 1 female out of 10 I think), I wont count my females before they are sexed... I hope for at least 2 females. If I actually got 50% that would be AWESOME, but we will see. If i got 4 females, I would top one and put it in the veg box as a mom.

I am going to make a veg box using the current light and a wardrobe box. I am almost done building my 276 watt flowering lamp, just got to silver the reflector wings and attach them to the main assembly. Given the amount of time I actually have to spend on these type of things it will probably be another 2 days before I post a pic. Then it will be onto the veg box. Doing the math, I think it will be most cost effective to buy a 8 site daisy cloner then to build my own, but i think my first clones might just go into cups of water, to see if i can make it work without the cloner.
