First Grow - "Stealth" - Bagseed - 130W CFL: All input welcome!!

Hey everyone, I'm h&p and this is my first grow--definitely wont be my last!

I'm currently growing in a 20x16x12 box (if I remember correctly, possibly larger) with (3) 26W 2700K bulbs and (2) 26W 6500K bulbs.

There are (2) 140mm hot pink (have to include the color) fans, taped together acting as an exhaust at the top and (1) 92mm fan acting as intake. I've been thinking of removing the intake fan and seeing how the box reacts to a passive intake but that's for another day.

:hump: (my favorite emote EVER)

It all started with me germin' a bagseed I found outside. Then I got a couple more from my younger sister (only one popped but MAN did it pop fast) and now I have 2 in the box with 3 more set to go in after work tomorrow.

I don't plan on growing all 5 but I'll be damned if I get screwed over by males next month when I kick them into 12/12.

Since it's highly likely that all of these seeds came from dirt weed (though she swears they didn't) I'm just using this mostly to get my hands dirty and gain some experience before I go out and get something I KNOW is good.

Not going to lie though, bagseeds are kinda charming. Maybe one of these lovely ladies will turn out to be all Cinderella-at-the-ball you know?

Enough talking, let's get some pictures going! :hump:

PIC 1: Is the view from the outside of the box.

PIC 2: Is the view from inside of the box. Sammy on the right and Ze Newie on the left (love those girls)

PIC 3: A shot taken tonight of the sisters side-by-side. Sammy on the right and Ze Newie on the left. Sammy went into the dirt/box on the 9th while Newie went in on the 13th.

PIC 4: Profile shot of Sammy to show how they're both reaching towards the 3 CFLs in front of them. They want them some lumenz!

I could sit here and write an entire dissertation on a couple of plants that are barely a week old but instead of that I'd rather put it out there that I'm completely open to all kinds of feedback from ANYONE with regards to what's goin' down in Boxtown!

EDIT: The ultimate goal for this goal is basically to try out as many methods as possible while still maintaining proper spacing within the box. I have (3) 2L pots so I'm thinking of keeping some inside of the red cups, xplanting 1 or 2 into a larger pot and just practicing LST, topping, "large" and small containers and a combination of all between the 5 plants.

Oh and to not get caught ;)

So 7 more seeds busted but due to size constraints I couldn't use them all. I still couldn't bring myself to throw out the 4 I didn't have space for indoors so I picked a nice secluded spot in the back yard, dug up a little dirt and and planted them there. I don't have any hopes for them but I plan on giving them some nutes early on (to make up for their lack of soil?) and seeing how they fare.

Like I said, I'm trying to experience as many areas of this as I can with this first grow to help towards making my second grow phenomenal.

Sammy is definitely growing, but it's funny to watch more and more leaves pop up without her getting ANY taller.

I scooted the two older ones towards the back to make room for the triplets. I haven't given them names yet :(

From her new spot in the back, Newie I guess has decided to give the two CFLs closest to her a chance. We'll see if Sammy does the same and starts growing towards these CFLs now. Speaking of Newie, she's definitely making Sammy look like a saggy old lady. All of Newies leaves are bright green and perky while Sammies are a darker shade and slightly droopy, like she's too lazy to lift them up!

So they're currently on different watering schedules. Newie is a heavy drinker and seems to be fine with a light watering every day. Sammie seemed to perk up a little bit when I let her go two days without watering so I think I'm going to see if the results repeat themselves this time around.

The other shots are just more pictures of how the actual crate is set up. The black and grey shoeboxes go over the intake and exhaust fan to keep light leak down to a minimum.

I'm going to kick the whole box into 12/12 in two weeks so we'll see how the different amounts of veg timing affected each of the plants as well.

Speaking of veg, I'm thinking of turning my PC tower into a veg box and getting a little perpetual grow going on here. But that's all just future thinking there. Baby steps for right now--one foot in front of the other.

Transplanted Sammy into a bigger (~3L) container last night for a couple of reasons:

  • She's my baby :)
  • I want to see the difference between large containers and party cups so I know which to go for with my first "real" grow.
  • And When I originally planted her I was stoned and forgot the Peat Moss in addition to giving her shitty drain holes. This is one of the reasons I think Newie seems to be doing better right now.

That said, as you can tell from the picture she doesn't appear to be too stoked right now but I just checked on her and she's perking up a bit. I bet she'll be standing proud within a few days!

Also, if you check out the upper-left corner of the last image you can see cup D (still unnamed) has broken soil! You go gurl!

At DAY 12, Sammy seems to be stoked about her new house. She's lookin' better than ever today!

At DAY 8, Newie has also been looking great as usual.

And look what we have here! I've finally come up with some more names:

We have Roz to the right of Newie
Thummy is front and center and DK is to the left of Thummy.

I may be getting a clone of a "real" strain soon though, so one of these might have to go :( We'll see who the runt is as we get closer to October!

Started nutes on Sammy and Newie tonight. 1/4 the suggested amounts for CNS17 GROW and PureBlend Bloom--both by Botanicare.

Let's see how they like it!

I think I'll give them both a bit of this cocktail every other day (depending on how they react to it). I use Fox Farms Ocean for soil and it's supposed to have a good amount of nutes already in it for babies but hey, you'll never know how a bit more nutes will treat your babies until you try right?

Also, I have a G13 clone coming in later this week so I'm happy to say that a "real" strain will definitely be growin' in this box. It wont get much veg time (if any, depending on when I get it) so let's see how Ms. Clone does compared to the rest of the babies. Still breaks my heart that I'll likely have to get rid of one of them to make room for the clone but hey, what can you do?

Woo, Sammy and Newie are STOKED about the little bit of nutes I gave them. I'll take a picture of Sammy tomorrow morning when they wake up but here's a quick group shot of Newie and the triplets :)

DAY 15 for Sammy marks the beginning of her training. If you look closesly at the last picture you can see where I've bent her over and held her in place with a wire hanger that's been cut and shaped into a little hook.

I wanted to start training Newie too but at DAY 11 she doesn't seem to be ready for any bending.

Just as a test I started Roz on nutes today while leaving Thummy and DK on regular water. Let's see how she likes it.

I'll be switching them over to 12/12 today because I need to know some sexes and I really would hate for these lovely ladies to get too big for their area.

Man, the girls are blowin' up even after just the first day of 12/12. Sammy's started putting on perfume and her little pre-flowers have popped up.

I had to add some soil to Newie to make her suitable for training so we'll see how that goes. I also upped the nute cocktail that her, Sammy and Roz have been getting (added some Pure Vida Organic BLOOM to the mix).

Thinking I'll top Newie either tomorrow or Monday, depending on the growth/reaction to more foodz.

Big babies, no whammy. Big babies, no whammy.

That's the mantra for these next few days as I wait and see how the girls react to more nutes. Sammy didn't get any today since she still has plenty of moisture in her soil but hopefully Newie and Roz love this stuff.

PICTURES:

PIC 1: is a group shot with all of the girlz!

PIC 2: Sammy @ day 16. If you look closely you can see where the next bit of growth has started due to the LST

PIC 3: Lastly, is Newie, showing off her new LST job.

-First is a group shot--as usual.

-2nd is Newie and the triplets.

-Close up of Newie's LST job. I ended up moving the hook further towards to tip, it should work better now.

-A peek under Sammy's skirt, you can see the new growth a-comin along ;)

-Sammy from over the top.

Didn't take a picture because there really isn't much going on lately. I think this is because it was hotter than shit yesterday and the babies weren't diggin' it. Well they better adapt because it's supposed to be back to back scorchers this week.

Anyhow, when I checked their soil this morning the top of Newie's was hard as fuck--hard and solid like one of those dry mudclots. I'm thinking this is because I may have compacted the new soil I added too firmly which, combined with the heat, formed a dirt rock? Either that or Newie loved what was in the new soil I added to the top and ate it right up, but I don't think that's the case.

She seems to be doing fine and I broke up the soil + wet it before I put her back in. When I wet it, the liquid seriously sat in small puddles at the top for about 5 seconds before slowly being absorbed into the soil. Like I said, I loosened it up after that, hopefully it wasn't choking poor Newie out. :(

The triplets are doing fine. It seems like Roz is growing slower than Thummy and DK--with Thummy being the best of the bunch. I think Roz may not yet be ready for the nutes and that's what's slowing her down but I'm gonna keep feeding them to her just to see what happens. If she kicks the bucket it's no loss because someone's gotta go soon anyhow.

Alright, some updated pics! First of all, here's the age recap (all dates are coming from when I put the germinated seed into the soil):

Sammy (in the black) is 19 days old.
Ze Newie (to the far left) is 15 days old.
The Triplets are all 10 days old.

First is a group shot. Thummy (to the right of Sammy) has really been impressing me. She hasn't gotten any nutes yet seems to be doing the best out of the triplets with DK not too far behind.

I've been giving Roz nutes and she's been growing the slowest out of the triplets, which all brings me to my biggest point: I didn't think about there not being any Calcium/Magnesium in distilled water which is what my soup is made of, so that may be why Thummy is lovin life while Roz and Newie aren't (as much).

Thankfully, I had some Techniflora MagiCal on hand so I added a little over 1TSP to the brew as well as another TSP of PureVida Organic BLOOM.

Oh and, being dumb, I accidentally gave DK nutes this watering so it looks like Thummy is the only nuteless wonder this time around. Whoopsies!

Next two pics are of Sammy and a really nice upskirt.

Next shot is of Newie and the final shot is of Thummy.

I'm expecting some nice results from the new food mixture so I can't wait for tomorrows update :)

So I accidentally put Thummy too close to the lights today. Only took a couple of hours to burn the hell out of her poor self :(

I repositioned her and actually lowered all of the red cups by a book because I'll be damned if my babies get burned again. Anyhow she'll live but I was so bummed because she was the best of the triplets (pictured to the right of Newie in the 2nd picture above).

Speaking of Newie, I'm thinking of gauging the space I have in the box tomorrow when the house is empty, I'd kinda like to put her in a bigger pot I found. Seeing how well Sammy took to a larger environment makes me feel bad for keeping poor Newie in a cup. But I'm going to make sure I know sexes before I do any more transplanting.

They're lookin' great today. A few are a little saggy but the important thing is I see what appears to be preflowers coming in. If they are then I'm thinking we should know the sex be the end of the week :-o

First pic is a group shot as always!

Second is a solo of Sammy doing her signature slant while the third is an upskirt of her showing the 3 hooks I have currently holding her down.

Fourth is Sammy and Newie leanin' to the side.

Fifth are the triplets, you can see Thummy's burnt ass to the left :-('

And lastly, a closeup of Thummy's burnt ass :sad:

Few days since I last updated. I bent Sammy some more and she's growing just like I want her to. I also started bending two of the triplets. The burnt one is still recovering so I don't want to fuck with it anymore until it's fully recovered.

Those two are really taking off though!

Ok so, picture time.

The first one is a group shot as always.

The second is Sammy's bad hair day. She's still workin it out, there's a few new branches growing under those big leaves, I'm trying to think of a place to tie those things so that the new growth can get more light.

The next few pics are just me looking for preflowers. All of the one's in the shots look like females and I'm pretty sure Sammy is a female as well but I very well could be looking at the wrong thing since this is my first time.

So if anyone sees anything...or if there's nothing there, let me know! Haha.

The next shot is how it looks inside of the case. I didn't feel like editing the One Tree Hill DVD out of the picture so I'll just admit that I loved the first 3 seasons. Now that that's out of the way, I added another 26W CFL and changed the two blue bulbs out for red ones so lets see if the babies love the new all-red lighting.

The last picture is of the small PC case I built yesterday. It's just barely got room for 3 CFLs and maybe 2 plants. I'm thinking of keeping a small mother or two here or maybe veg here depending on how big my current babies get.

Also, one question: Sammie's leaves get dry and crispy and two of them have a small hole in them. I'm thinking this is because I misted them like a retard yesterday and couldn't get all of the water off of Sammy before she had to go back in but are crispy leaves a sign of anything else?

Your setup is similar to mine except your plants are further down the road than mine. I think I hit a homerun with my ventalition setup recently based on trial, error and much reading. I have three exhaust fans (total of ~270 CFM) and only one passie intake. HOWEVER, just outside my passive intake is a cool humdifier (Humidifier from Target)

therefore the passive intake takes in cool humid air. My box maintains actually a degree cooler inside the box over the outside ambient temp while maintaining a humidity level of 41%. (EDIT: This is while running 4 X 23Watt 6,500K CFL Lamps) I would like better, but based on the tornado of air flowing through, I'll take the consistent 41%.

Anyhow, I'm sub'd plus I'll have to LST my guys and you did a good job of that as well. +Rep

Oh man, thanks a ton for the tip on the humidifier--I think I actually may pick one up since lower temps in the box would make the girls happy I'm sure. Just subbed to your thread too, btw!
