CFLs from Home Depot and Lowes are 5500k!!!

The daylight 27 watt cfls at Home Depot and Lowes are 5500k!

This whole time I thought I was using 6500k when Ive been using 5500k. Just from reading what others have posted and seeing the "daylight" on the front of the package, I just assumed they were 6500k. On the back of the package however, in small typing it reads "5500k"

I discovered this bc I bought (6) 42 watt 6500k cfls and plugged them in, the brightness is very different to me. I searched all over for the color of my Home Depot 27 watters and sure enough, 5500k. :wall:

Just thought you all should know.

You know if its just the 27watters? I got my 23w daylight from home depot and I assumed it was 6500k. Which ones if any are the 6500k?

Not sure about the 23 watters. I just grabbed the biggest daylight cfls they had. I was using 10 of the 27 watters and it was just too many bulbs. I got on amazon and found 42 watt 6500 cfls for 8.99 a piece and I bought 6 so I got free shipping. They are bright as hell! Not advertising for them but they are the cheapest 42 watt 6500 cfls I could find.

did you see my thread a couple days ago about lowes? if not check it out. 6pk 23w (100w equivalent) 2700k are less than $4. also the 4pk of 6500k bulbs are less than $10. my lowes carries a brand called " Bright Effects " and they state the kelvin rating right on the front of all their bulbs. The 2700k packs are orange and the 6500k packs are blue.... the way it should be right? i have an excellent lowes near me which makes it easy on me because i HATE home depot. dumbest set of employees working in a home improvement store you'll ever meet, i dont care what HD you goto. the HD by my house has greeters now, reminds me of wal-mart..... try asking a slow person where a 5/8" fitting for a sink valve is when youre in a hurry to get a leak fixed. i hate home depot. anywho i know lowes carries them online and you can order them online and have them shipped to your lowes so you dont have to pay shipping, you just have to wait a few days.

Totally that man I go to Lowe's all the time now it just annoys me to walk in to Home Depot and have to say hello back to the greeter, when I go in there I just want to go to what I need and buy it, and get out and do whatever I was doing. WORD!@

Also Home Depot has Phillips 6500k 23 watt bulbs in stock always. It doesn't say ANYWHERE on the box but just pull a bulb out and it says on the ballast!

just wanna say lowes blows for me atleast it is setup for homeowners..i am a contractor and when i go in there i feel like a lil kid trying to find real good made stuff

I have never seen anything "Day light spectrum" over 26 watts at any home depo or lowes.
I wonder if they're hip and they know what we do with them and either outlawed or stopped carrying them, or they're just that many ppl grwn which is highly unlikely over here ?

The lowes by me has greeters at the door. Just like walmart. Its not the employes at home depot. Other than basic building material they dont cary high quality stuff, which people hate. Lowes on the other hand stocks the same building materials, but other higher quality goods. Their prices are higher on the building materials that are exactly the same as home depot just becuase of that. better for home owners, worse for the people you hire to fix your house

i've had good luck with the home depot 5500k cfl's, really gave me a good veg all by themselves
sun is around 5700k, so if you like to go the most 'natural' way, these are pretty good bulbs

find me a dry straight 2x4 at home depot that isnt kiln dried ( which you pay an extra $1 ). i have been in construction for 15 years now, and as of the last 8 years home depot has gone cheap on their material and it sucks ass. i personally goto dixieline lumber if i can, but if not i goto lowes. i'll pay more from somewhere else rather than give my business to home depot. next time you goto hd as the kid at the fron with downsyndrome where something is..... all hes gonna say is HI!!!!

I'm pissed man I look at my bulb my 23w "daylight" and it says 3500k right on it. Thats kinda off from what I need. Would 3500k mixed with other 2500k be a good mix for flowering or should I get an actual 5500-6500k?

i see some negative feedback on the 3000-4500k temp cfl's, bit newer than the others, maybe the jury is still out on them?

Dude - Sunlight, at noon, is 5600 Kelvin, so 5500 is close enough to be called daylight. 6500 K is bluer than that.

As far as I can tell, that is a good thing, 6500k was used because that was more available before in other light types, but the plant actually prefers 5000 to 6000, aka 5500k. It's fine, and good, I have used 5500k to great success.
