Exclamation Bug control guide, Everything from Erradication to Prevention.
Pest Control Guide

I have been having an ongoing battle with various pest in my indoor garden, such as root aphids, gnats, and an assortment of other things I don’t care to identify.

This is what I do when I go into combat with these creatures of mass destruction.

First is the heavy artillery for the eradication of all insects.

If you have a heavy constant infestation purchase a Hot Shot No-pest Strip and hang it in your room it will last you 3 months… But I would take it out during flush.

Hot Shot No-pest Strip

To start the removal process of your insects use X-clude1600 pyrethrum time release spray. This stuff is strong and has a very poisony odor to it so use it in tiny bursts.

X-clude1600

Once you have knocked down the numbers to the refugees you will want to use Safer Insect killing soap. This stuff is potassium salts of fatty acids and is great for killing bugs without poison. Spray it on everything from soil to rockwool but don’t saturate it.

Use this every 2 days for a week or so.

Safer Insect killing soap

Second is prevention of them coming back and at all.

I run multiple systems from soil to aeroponics to hydroponics so this was kinda a hassle to find something I could use in each to keep bugs away and didn’t have a strong odor.

For aeroponics and hydroponic systems I use Nutrilife SM-90 at 2ml per gallon from start to flush.

SM-90

For Soil I use Mosquito Dunks. These I use at 1 dunk crushed in panty-hose per 5 gallon bucket left in water overnight. This not only will keep bugs from coming around but will kill them. Also you can use this to eradicate root aphids in Soil and Hydroponics.

Mosquito Dunks

But with mosquito dunks if you have a weak strain (hermie flowers) this will bring it out with a lot of use. I use this every couple of waterings.

And finally I use a lighter Insecticidal soap from ortho I get from walmart once my bugs are under control to keep them away. I apply once a week to the tops of grow mediums.

Ortho Insecticidal soap

Also I have used GoGnats insect soap with cedar oil. This stuff is Ok. I don’t personally like it because I used it at half strength on the bottle and it wilted my plants at first but they came back, also it has a strong pine-sol odor to it. But it did do a good job of eradication root aphids in my hydroponic system.

GoGnats

So finally once you have got rid of your bugs, use Mosquito Dunks or SM-90 depending on what type of system you are using to keep the under soil bugs from coming around. Along with Insecticidal soap to kill top living insects and you should see no bugs no matter how bad it was before in a very short time with limited use of harsh, stinky chemicals.

I use all these products with the House & Garden Aqua Flakes nutrient and additive line. Feel free to ask any questions!

Subscribed. Great thread. Nobody talks about root aphids and they are a fucker to control. I say control because I'm fairly sure you can never get rid of them completely. I'm using an imidacloprid containing insecticide similar to bayer tree and shrub. Ya it's not organic but it is the only thing that is proven to control root aphids. It's what tobacco and grape growers and all kinds of vegetable growers use. Well they use the super concentrated stuff. Mine is only 1.47% imidacloprid.

With the mosquito dunks, do you put the crushed up powder into water and just pour over soil? I'd like to try a different approach on two plants that I will place elsewhere. Thanks

I place one dunk into panty-hose and tie it up and then crush the dunk to make a powder that stays in the panty-hose. then i place into a 5 gallon bucket of ph'd water overnight like tea. then take out the dunk and water your plants with the water with your nutes mixed in, or not.

Yeah root aphids are the worst thing in my garden.

And once I seem to get them all gone they come back in flash and in hordes.

I have read they are born pregnant, so that would save lots of time...

Ya that's true and there's a million other fascinating things about them too. They're almost cool except that they eat pot plants lol. I cloned a couple weeks ago and already found tons of eggs in the rockwool and it's taking forever for roots to peek out even with the heating mat and all. bah

Peace

Got any tips for spider mites, i just found one of my girls witha slight infestation. There in week 7 budding, didnt want to and was prolly against my better judgment, but i freaked out ( not wanting the other 13 to get infected, especially because its the runt of the litter) and made a Go Gnats Foliage spray/ Barrier Spray 5ml in a quart of water. Sprayed the SHIT out of it and since i was going to start pruning the fan leaves soon any way i thought it would be half way descent idea to chop as many infested leaves as possible, i checked the under sides for the little assholes. Then applied the barrier around the room in the nooks and cranies, as well as the doorway.. Need help kinda new, but up until now i was doin good..

Get SM-90 it was made to target spidermites. hence the SM in SM-90

Smells better than goGnats and i have heard it does way better than neem oil when used as a foiler spray.

Also get a No-pest strip since you are so close to finish and want them dead now, and don't want to spray poisons like exclude 1600 that take 10-20 days to break down so you don't get nasty side effects from smoking the bud.

Also goGnats did nothing to bugs when i sprayed them with the shit... they just waited till they dried off and flew away.

I personally have never had spidermites, and have heard that's the worse thing to get. so good luck
