Gnats everywhere

fuck Soil is about one of the best ways to get rid of em. go hydro. although that doesnt mean youll get em still but itll be a lot less, sand just fucked up my plants it started killin the leaves from the bottom up. i tried putting perlite on the top layer and that didnt work, i placed cups of peroxide everywhere and place tape around the tops of the pots and all over the walls and layed strips in the sand yet i still seen them. my best bet would be go with the neem oil or einstein oil thats been mentioned AND use every other method possible, except sand. if you are going to use it id say only use about an inch worthfor a week or two

dyna-gro neem oil is 100 percent cold press neem oil I have used it for years and never had an issue....like the say an ounce of prevention is worth a couple of pounds later.....neem oil works but you have to be patient and stay on top of them.....remember they didn't get a foot hold on your plants in one day and your not going to get rid of them in one day either.....and you can't say it enough....CLEAN...CLEAN...CLEAN

This is the key. Gnats love water. Keep the top of your pots relatively dry, and your problem will disappear. Growing in soil this might be a challenge unless you change the way you water. Your lower roots are the feeders, and the upper system needs oxygen. Keeping the upper part of your pot dryer should also perk them up a bit.

Yea, Einstein Oil seems to me the best Neem there is. Also, it's the best for spider mites.

I had a over whelming gnat problem up until about 5 days ago. I put up a HotShot No Pest Strip and bam 3 days later and Ive only seen one gnat flying around. Also I had a slight mite problem on my lower leaves and today when I checked them out with my pocket microscope they were all gone too. Ive read mixed reviews on the effectiveness of No Pest Strips but I bought one and it took care of my bug problems in 3 days. Just my two cents

I tried the Hot Shot Pest Strips - No Luck
I tried the mosquito tabs - No Luck
I tried preythium bombs and lots of them - No Luck
I tried regular raid bombs - No Luck. They were flying around the room as I removed the bomb 2 hours after setting it.
I tried the gnatrol powder - No Luck
Tried the potatoes - No Luck
I tried putting 6 Hot Shot Pest Strips in a sealed room, since everyone swears by them and thought it worth another shot - No Luck
Sticky traps - Trap hundreds, but it only controls them. I want to eradicate them.

Not much else I can do. It's a DWC system, so the sand thing is not a possibility.

Mix up some very strong coffee. Add lots and lots of sugar, mix well and pour into a cookie sheet. Place the cookie sheet with your plants. The gnats should seek out the sweet coffee and die when they touch it. It might be a good idea to give it a stir each day so the sugar doesn't precipitate out. We haven't tested larger grow areas with this technique, so we're not sure exactly how big of a room this will work on. We've only used it with 3'x3' areas and smaller. Give it at least a whole watering cycle to work. More gnats will probably dive into the coffee as the soil dries.

We didn't read through all of the replies before posting so sorry if this has been mentioned already.

It will need to have water added each day. More coffee can be added once in awhile. It needs to be very strong to kill all of the bugs that touch it, as well as extremely sweet to draw the insects close. I don't know that it really ever goes bad, though. Multiple cups of coffee scattered amung the plants seems to be the best way when something as large as a cookie sheet isn't possible.

We originally had the idea when we left a cup of coffee out overnight during a gnat infestation. The next morning, there were half a dozen or so dead gnats floating in the cup. It had a little cream in it but we've since had good results without the cream. It lasts much longer with none but the cream might help it work just a little better.

Ive been battling these things for 6 months. nothing has worked. the other day i bought some hanging thing meant for moths and since then i have not seen a single gnat. moth repellent, not a moth killer or trap. it cost less than $5 at home depot. 6 months of seeing the yellow traps full of dead gnats and finally there are none. the only thing that seemed to work was the cheapest and easiest. go figure

there eggs and larve are in your soil ,, that moth killer or trap is only going to kill the adults that fly.
the dunks treat the soil and kill the problem at the source.

try all the things you want ,, but the dunks work the best

neem oil, dunks and "gnat stix" are what finally did it for me. F fungus gnats!

I used twice the recommended amount on the dunks and they still didn't work. not for me at least. I went through two packs actually and it didn't even slow them down. just sharing my experience, that's all. DWC btw, so no soil. oh well, just throwing another option out there, since it is a cheap one and regardless of what works for everyone else, this was the only thing that has worked for me. i would have never even thought to use something for moths on these gnats, but it was a last ditch effort based on desperation.

I am dealing with gnats, the toughest kind, gognats does not work for me, just irritates them, azatrol does not work, just irritates them, Doktor doom kills em on contact, the only thing is that spray can mists so fine and hard the mist kind of hits the soil and coils upwards toward the foliage, and it doesnt really soak in like the gognats, which might be a good thing since i dont know how the plants would react to high amounts of Doktor Doom in the soil. I have heard Diatamaceous earth works, its very sharp to soft bodied insects and cuts them open when walking around, sprinkle it on the soil like you would a layer of sand. Havent tried it personally, its just what I read. Honestly I dont think there is a product out there that works 100% or we would all be talking about it and somebody would be rich as fuck right now. I've tried lady bugs before, their larvae eat soil born pests, but once they turn to adults and start flying around, there is little you can do to stop them. I think after all the stuff I have tried to stop them with made them stronger and more resistant to pesticide, is that even possible?

Ok status update, I just bought this product from home depot called eco-smart, 2% peppermint oil, only costs 5 bucks, kills em on contact, I sprayed gnat and I'm looking at it die under the dope scope as we speak. So I sprayed it on a few pots, mixed the first inch up and sprayed again then covered with sand, will tell you how it goes!!!
