So who knows anything about fungus gnats? Are they a sign that something is wrong? Could it mean that I've got some root rot going on? Or are they just an unwelcome pest that show up randomly? Right now the Hydroponic Shop I frequent is closed for Independence Day, so all I can do to combat them is lay down some sticky pads. BUT on Friday I am going to wage WAR on these little fuckers. I will get whatever can kill them (hopefully it's painful) without harming my plant. I think maybe I'll go with Azamax? Anyways - let me know what you think... especially if I'm wrong and these are some other type of bug

The gnats themselves aren't a problem, but their larva eat roots, and that's where they will cause problem. It won't seem to be an issue until they have reproduced enough to damage the roots en masse, at which point the plant's health will basically collapse. There is a strain of bt (bacillus thurengiensis) that attacks fungus gnats, or their larva, and that is probably what I would recommend. I think it is the israelensis strain, but I am not 100% on that, its been a while since I've needed it. You can probably find it at your local gardening store, if your grow store doesn't carry it. It's fairly cheap, and works quite well.

I've posted this somewhere else too, and have had people suggest neem oil diluted in ph balanced water. Have you ever tried that? I will search for the BTI and see what I can find out about it. Thanks you guys for the help.

Neem oil will protect them from eating your plants, and will eventually drive them out, but it's not an instant panacea... I'd try out neem cake for a preventative in the future

I have only been growing indoors for a few years now and just moved up here to Co.Long story short I had to stay with a family member for a few months and use a shared grow space, which came with a ba-jillion fungus gnats! I had a full blown infestation and even though I am out of there now I couldn't get them down. Went to a local shop and they recommended a product called TaNlIN. I paid like 49.99 and it is super concentrated and I believe is just a super concentrated form of aspartame maybe??? Anyhow it worked like a champ and was well worth the 50 bucks and I still have plenty left over. Good luck bro. Peace

Most hydro stores carry many different forms of this. Mosquito dunks are the same and much cheaper, only down side is they don't mix in well. The liquid version at one of my local shops was pretty pricey, 150 or so I think.

Well, I'm about to go pick up some Azamax and take these fuckers down! I guess I should probably wait until midnight though, when the lights go out, right? I don't like watering during lights on hours because I usually end up getting a little on the leaves and then end up with burnt spots on them. I will update afterwards - I just told the fungus gnats it's time to go... hopefully they think I'm bullshitting them so I can hear their little gnat screams as the Azamax fucks their world up!

After only one application, I quit SEEING any signs of them. It's been a week. I have a plain watering scheduled next, but when I feed them after that, they're getting another dose of the Azamax. Just because I can't see them, doesn't mean that they are gone. Buds are starting to "plump up" nicely. Not as big as I'd like, but I guess I can live with it.
