Well, I have vegged for 30 days now. My plants are from 19"-26" tall with the exceptions of the shot adrenaline that is an auto flower and it is 28", one Colombian gold is also 28", and my Ladyburn 1974 is only 16" tall. They are all bushy, some more than others, except for the Ladyburn. She has an under canopy that is waiting to explode! I want to get rid of two fan leaves on her to help light, it's only two and it would open up to light like never before seen. I won't do it though bc I have read NOT to take off the fan leaves. Oh well. Anyway, the veg went great for me. I had a couple minor problems, but learned from every mistake. That's my real goal here anyway. I know I'll do better on my second round and I feel like I did great here!
So I flushed my plants with 2 gallons of water each today with fox farm sledge hammer. I put up bamboo stakes in pots with plants needing a little support. I changed the lights to 12 on/12 off. Also changing to a HPS from a MH. Both 1000 watts. Bye bye MH! Till next time buddy. I now have the floors covered in white poster board for reflection. I have redone my ventilation with light change. I took the ducting off of my cool tube and put an inline fan directly on it. It no longer pulls air from out of the room and pushes it out of the room. Now it takes air from in the room and spits it right back in the room. My high temp over 24 hours is 79f and low is 65f. My humidity stays pretty good, and my fans stay running. The AC keeps it right with lights on and drops it into the 60s with lights off. Carbon filter is working great to keep exhaust from room smelling neutral.
I have my light 30" from lowest plant and I'm not moving it till I have to. The room is WAY brighter with light up higher. White high gloss paint is the shit!!! The poster boards light up the floor too, but who knows if it'll do much good. It cant hurt.
Anyway, that's what's happening. I would love any critiquing on all this. Below is a photobucket link. Have a look at my progress from start to current. Let me know what you think. The password is Rollitup

    Sounds like your doing well.
Did you flush because you are transitioning from veg to flowering? IMO that's not necessary or really even helpful.
Using a MH during veg is fine, in fact maybe preferable. It also helps to use the MH during the end of flowering. The increased UVB triggers greater THC production.
As far as the height of your lights, remember light diminishes according to the inverse square law. You want to light the canopy not necessarily the room.

In my experience an air cooled hood with glass can be placed at the distances recommended at the above link, without damaging the plants.

Oh and on the subject of removing "fan" leaves. During the veg period, I wouldn't recommend it, however, it is beneficial, arguably necessary during flowering. Fan leave that are shading lower bud sites absolutly can be removed to the benefit of the plant (and your yield). Some nutrient lines actually include a product designed to trigger he withdraw of cell products from the fan leaves and encourage them to fall off at the onset of flowing. (ie Bud XL from House and Garden) http://www.house-garden.us/products/additives/bud-xl/ they refer to the "fan leaves" as "large bracts". Also leafing ,as it is called where I live, reduces the chance of powdery mildew and bud rot (botrytis). You will see that a wimpy little bud site consisting of no more than a few hairs and being pale green can transform into a descent little bud in only a few days if you remove the fan leaf that is shading it. If you dont the lower portion of your plants will have a ton of small wispy buds. Locally called "larf". Leafing to allow light to penetrate the canopy and removing the lower bud sites at the onset of flowering can greatly improve the quality and quantity of your crop. For example Where I was born they grow a lot of oranges. When the fruit is set the farmers often go around and remove half the baby oranges. The total weight produced will be at lest the same but the energy of the tree goes to making fewer bigger oranges.

Check out Ed Rosenthals Marijuana growers handbook for info on the benefits of MH at the end of flowing.
