Autoflower Journal - 2 Nirvana Short Riders, 1 Bubblelicious 250 watt HPS

This is my 1ST autoflower grow, so any tips from people WITH experience will be greatly appreciated.

I am growing 2 Nirvana Short Riders, and 1 Nirvana Bubblelicious for this trial run. Here if a run-down of my setup: using small closet 2'x4'. I leave the doors open to help control heat and humidity. So far temps have stayed between 73-79°, humidity is between 60-68%. I'm using a 250 watt HPS bulb in an air cooled hood fixture.

Using Fox Farm "Happy Frog" soil in 3 gallon pots. I used about 2.5 gal water while mixing up my soil. The water was distilled, and to each gallon I mixed 2 ml Humboldt Roots, and 1/2 tsp of Humboldt Nutrients "Myco Madness", then Ph'd it to 6.4. I also added a 1lb bag of Perlite to a 2 cubic ft bag of the soil.

My grow is primarily for personal smoke, and to kill my curiosity about this autoflower hype that seems to be going around. Nirvana claims the Short Riders only take 60 days from seed to harvest, while I'm a bit skeptical, I am also hoping they're right. I know I'm going to get eaten alive for admitting this, but I don't do anything special when it comes to germination... I simply make a small hole in the soil, insert seed, cover with just a tiny bit of soil, then mist the area with Ph'd water to ensure it's plenty damp. The first Short Rider came up in 3 days, the second Short Rider broke soil in 5 days, and the Bubblelicious came out after 3 days, but it was started about a week later. I know I could have speed things up by using the most paper towel trick, but I wasn't in a hurry and didn't care if they took 2 Weeks to show their pretty faces. Plus, I've NEVER done them any other way, and have always stuck to the "Grow With What You Know" philosophy.

  1. UPDATE from 6/25/12

So- not much to really post on here, the plants seem to be doing great. I am a little displeased with the way they're stretching, but I think it's my fault. I have 3 plants under the HPS, and it seems like they are competing too much for the light. The side branches aren't getting much growth on them - they just shoot/stretch all the way to the top of the canopy and try to be the tallest so they get most light.... greedy little fuckers. There should be plenty at the bottom for them!!!! I can't ...

Sorry it's been so long, there just hasn't been much to report.

Everything is looking great. All is well. One Short Rider is 23 days old, the other is 20 days old, and the Bubblelicious is 15 days old. I've been sticking to the same nutrients as before - Fox Farm Big Bloom, Fox Farm Grow Big, Humboldt Roots, and Cal/Mag+. I feed with nutes once, then plain Ph balanced water the next time. They really seem to like what they're getting.

I did figure that some ...

As of today, Short Rider 1 is 13 days old, #2 is 11 days old, and the Bubblelicious is only 5 days old. I know I should probably use a MH bulb during veg, but all I had handy was the HPS, and I am confident it will work just fine for the entire grow. The light will be on an 18on/6 off schedule all the way through flowering.

As for nutrients, I'll be using Fox Farm "Big Bloom", Fox Farm "Grow Big", Fox Farm "Tiger Bloom", Humboldt Roots, and some ...
