My, they do grow up fast! Got an awesome reflector today off of Craigslist. 100% more light. Also added a 70 hps to supplement the 400 mh. All comments are welcome.

So after some great suggestions from the creative and open-minded people that took the time to read my journal yesterday, my auto-height adjuster was a success! It went from idea to a working prototype in less than 12 hours. Granted, it doesn't use a sensor or IR eye, but it does raise my light at 1" per day. Which would allow me to go out of town for a week or more, if nothing else. So a quick thank you to everyone who believed in me. To the couple who thought i was wasting my time .... kiss-ass.

Clones are doing awesome under 24 hr circ. flou. tube. I have them in a rectangular terrarium with a hinged glass lid. Same principle as a humidity dome. I used standard acid-based rooting hormone from home depot. It works just fine at about 1/3 the price of the hydroponics stores.

More pics coming soon. Sorry for the poor quality.

Sounds too complicated? It's really not. And I can't believe nobody has created and marketed this. Here's the the basic idea...You use a timer to turn lights on and off. You use a thermostat to keep the room the right temp. I use a timer to drip-irrigate my plants. Basically, electronics are doing ALMOST all of the work for us, right? So why not have an automatically adjusting light hood that can sense how tall the plant is, say, every 12 hrs? It could be preset for 18" for example. Twice a day the electric winch (simple gear reduction electric motor, similar to the front end of a cordless drill for example) would raise the hood using an infrared eye...like the thing that goes ding-dong when it senses you entering a 7-11. Is there a need for this product? If you are like me, and your plants are in a detached growing space, you prolly don't want the neighbors wondering why you go into that unoccupied space EVERY day. Comments? Suggestions? Ridicule? All welcome.

I'm so excited!! Just confirmed 3 more girls. So I have 6 ladies and 1 left to confirm. Talk about lucky. Well here's some crappy pix taken with my cell phone showing the drip system. Also, note the 1 Blue Dream plant that's in full flower mode at 16-18" tall..I don't think she'll reveg. Fyi..The drip head is a .5 gph that comes on every 12 hours for 15 minutes at a time. Apparently they like this. If I didn't have to raise the lights, I wouldn't ever even need to check on them. I'm working on an auto-raising light system that senses the plants height and keeps the light at a pre-set distance based on user settings...more on this later....:weed:

ID:	1802753" class="thumbnail" />So today I made the decision to use only 1 of the two hibays. (After I did the simple math = 0.960 KW Hours x 18hours x 30days @ 0.15 per KW hour.) The extra cost of running 2 hibays will not make that big of a difference on 6 or 7 plants. So 400 watts it is.

Took my first clone today...:leaf:

Okay so here's everything I've done up till now....First, a little background on me. I live in So Cal in 1 of 4 houses that my grandma owns. we rent one and 2 are rented to tenants. The fourth one is not up to code, so it's always been used for storage. But the bathroom in it was empty. Hmm....are you thinking what i'm thinking? So since I am the only one with a key, well, you know. So my next dilemma was trying to afford the expensive HID lights. As an ex commercial boat operator, i am very familiar with Metal halide and HPS lights. (However, we used to use 3000 watt Halides on one boat that I ran.)

Well, about 10 years back, I got colorectal cancer. Why do you need to know this? Cause I'm explaining why HIDs were tough for me to afford. Long story shorter, I am currently on disability. I receive a whopping 600 bucks a month. So as I was checking Craigslist a month ago, I came across a guy who had hundreds of 400 watt MH Hibay lights. FOR TWENTY BUCKS EACH!!!! So i bought two, one for backup. They are so friggin new that the bulbs aren't even a little discolored. But I bought new ones anyways.

So that's my setup.....400 watt MH 18/6 in the bathtub. Plants are in Supersoil/Perlite in 3 gal containers. AND everything is hooked into a drip system w/ timer. (0.5 GPH heads for 15 mins each day.)

There are 7 plants at the time of this entry. 3 confimed girls, 4 unknown still.
Fading fast, so more later.
