Well I'm trying to do this journal so it doesn't start 6 different blogs.
See if this works...

The story behind these seeds are straight from the breeder rockster who tells how he came up with these seeds.

Rockster lives in U.K. and has an original Cheese #1 Exodus Cut of the original Skunk genetics Arjan brought over.
After many years of cloning from Mothers with nothing odd occuring all of a sudden he ends up with TWO males from a batch of clones.

He doesn't know why or how - just that he is sure they were cut from his Exodus Mother.
Apparently this is not unheard of; but is very rare none the less.
My hypothesis is that certain conditions have to align to gether to make it happen, and rockster just hit that sweet spot accidentally.

At any rate, rockster had the good sense to grow them out and choose one of the males and breed them with the females.
A side note: he said the other females from that batch of clones were normal and uniform.

These seeds are the result of his efforts, and are especially valued as this is a Breeders Pak of the new line.
And that is what I intend to do with them: breed.

Here is the unopened seedpak:

Seal cut and five of ten seeds selected:

Pots prepared for run;
I drilled five 7/16" diameter holes in bottom of each quart container,
filled them with medium, and then set seeds in pre-wetted depressions:

After covering plantings with loose medium and
adding a few ounces of water to try and saturate soil without disturbing seeds,
I then sprayed the upper surface of medium with aged pHed water to wet down
in order to trap moisture.

Normally I put on heated surface for a day or two after sowing seeds.
This setup is still pretty wet so I will wait until morning to place pots on heat source.

I am using fresh Pro-Mix BX for medium and will start and veg under 2X overdriven T-8's
Normally I veg 30 days before flipping for my tests.
Normally I repot two times:
a week to ten days for first transplant,
and just before placing in bloom room at 30 days.
I expect to go to 2 gal pots and then finish in 7 gal pots.

More later....

Okay it's two days and I set the pots on top of my 'heat source',
to do my thing like I do my thing:

After @5 hours I pulled them off and set them down below in the light.
The idea is to just warm the soil somewhat from the bottom upward.

You don't want to 'cook' it; you are trying to simulate the ground warming in the Spring to trigger the grow reflex.
Or something like that.
I go by feel here and that's the best I can explain it.
It has worked great for me up to now; so we will see.

The plan going forward here is some seedlings in a day or two sprouting up.

Okay I am at day 3 since sowing seeds and I have ignition on three of the five so far.

I set the warmed pots about a foot or so from the veg light yesterday afternoon:

Today I have something to show for the effort:

#One, #Three, and #Four have sprouted.
#Two has also sprouted.
Just went down to check before lights out:
#5 has sprouted.

5 for 5 man.
Hope this is a good sign.
more later....

I'm back but I am not ready to dust just yet - maybe 4 or 5 more days.
I'm almost ready to isolate male from air circulation, etc.

So after 12 days of Bloom cycle I am done sexing and I ended up with 4 Males and a single Female.
Did some hacking down yesterday and realized I won't be the 'Cheese King' anytime soon:

That's Numbers Two, Three, and Four, as well as their coresponding cloned tops above.

When I first realized there was only one Female I was kinda bummed that Number Three was not the Female.
Then I looked again and realized that the Female is the tallest one and I had to LST it down already.
So I need to try and dial in her nute needs as best I can but she does look like she may be a beast:

The Male I chose is a very nice specimen indeed:

So I took a shot of the stem size of the Male, and then Female:

Often stem size is indicative of final yield.
    I am 13 days into a 70 to 84 day bloom cycle.

You may have noticed the Male is in a big cardboard box above:

I forgot to measue it; but I think it's like a 3 feet tall box. It's from a Dryer.
Anyway Mr. Cheese just fits inside without bending his tops over.
He is starting to show some droop on his sacs; so I anticipate pollen dropping natural within 2 to 5 days.

It's hard to know exactly; but when they droop it usually is not long before at least a few let loose.
I want to selectively pollinate this time; I'll paint a branch of each plant I want to hit once I collect the pollen.

So I stuck a 60 something watt CFL in a sturdy standup fixture strategicaly located to not get the cardboard warm.
Got the box all sandbagged so it won't move anywhere, and got a small piece of cardboard to cover top vent at lights out.
A small grow tent would be ideal for this situation; but I got a cardboard box...

It's been two days since last photos, and things are starting to pick up.

The Boy in the box is growing flowers like crazy and seems content enough in the enclouser.

I opened up the top of the cardboard to give it some air and stretch room.
Hopeful my circulation is not moving enough air over it to carry pollen around.
I really don't want to do my whole crop in seeds again - I just want some testers of each cross to work out if warranted.

So I'm feeling real good about this Cheese project now that I can see nice plant structure and odor from the pair I am left with after culling.
I can't get a full overhead of the Felae while in the bloom room - it's already too wide and tall to get the shot.
Here's one from the side and another partial of the top:

It's got two main kolas that are LST down.
Middle is filling in nicely under the 1000 w HID.
I have a couple leafs that are wind-damaged from my aggressive use of circulation air in bloom.
But other than that I am starting to get the nutes dialed in a bit.

I used some N-Cal-Mag last two feedings, and also gave some 'grow' formula nutes last feeding.
My friend has oringinal Exodus Cut clone only of U. K. Cheese.
When I grew it I noticed it grew a paler color almost no matter what I did.
Hope I can figure it out with this one.

While I am impressed with the overall plant structure like node spacing, fan leaf distribution, and bud developement -
what impresses me most might be the main stems - these stems are telling me they want to grow BIG.
The plants are anticipating adding a lot of weight man; they don't need a tenth of their current bulk to support the growth so far.

Okay I'm back with some more photos of the last week or so.

I kinda gave up on the box as the plant did not want to really stay in there,
and I got tired of waiting for pollen to drop.

So I took box off at 19 days bloom cycle and left male outside bloom room.
There is air and fans and shit - I'm hit everywhere again most likely.
This male is going slow release on me and I'm ready to move on in the rest of my grow.

The female on left and male on right at 22 days bloom cycle.
The male is pooping several times a day by now.
Female is taking over bloom room; starting to think 5 gallon pot is not big enough.

    continued...
  8. FatMarty's Avatar
So yesterday I'm at 25 days bloom cycle and really getting tired of waiting for massive ejaculation from male.
It's 100 fricking degrees and has been for a week. I can't turn air off. Pollen must be flying.

The female is budding all over and getting huge.
It's only 70 days since I planted the seeds.
So I decide to transplant to bigger digs seeing as I still got 7 or 8 weeks of bloom left.
It's Cheese - Both smell like Cheese and look like Cheese and grow like Cheese.

So I layed a couple inches of medium in a 30 gallon...
Grabbed the plant by the base of the stalk and gently lifted her out of old pot.
I drilled a couple dozen 7/16" holes in the lower edge and bottom of container.
Did a little snipping of plastic tabs on lid and converted that to water tray.

I used a full 5 gallons of nute mix to throughly soak.
Topped it off with some dry medium to discourage bad stuff and got back in barn.
I had to LST all the extremities of the plant to keep it out of the lights.
  9. FatMarty's Avatar
I did promise to show you my brush.
And I did use it on several branches just to be sure.
But in the end, (today), I just yanked male and shook it over top.
It didn't make the big cloud some do; but there was definately some stuff flying around.

It was the only Male I had besides it's cloned top; so I'm certain there is only Cheese pollen in the air.
Looks like I'm going to miss my 100 day target for viable seeds by 15 - 20 days.
I added 15 days to the veg period when bloom room didn't empty as fast as expected.
Still - 100 days was probably always too optimistic for a ten week minimum bloom strain.

So I Hit Fat Marty re-veg, and Cheese #1 Female with the pollen.
Purple Kush would have gotten hit too; so I will grow at least part of that one out another 45 to 50 days for the beans.

  10. FatMarty's Avatar
So the big male is gone and it's all basic stuff from here.
I will grow the Cheese and the rest to the best of my ability.
With any luck I will have healthy buds full of seeds that are worth exploring further on down the road.

So before flowering I took clones of each cheese.
I took the top of each plant, rooted it in cloner, and planted in #2 pot.
After selection I got rid of 3 culled male clones.
Then I took the top off the original top of both the Cheese keepers and stuck them in cloner.

After 12 days in homemade cloner the roots were robust:

Female on left - Male on right.
I'm keeping for myself the female clone I took top off of.
I did a little crude supertopping with my fingers for FIM work, and look forward to growing it out.
I will veg her for the duration of this grow at minimum, and she will be seedless with at least 7 heads when I bloom her.

I got pictures of stem size from 3 days ago at 28 Days bloom cycle:

Had I not done that this is a 6 footer easy indoors.
At least this female specimine is.
The Male I selected was also poking it's head way out of box before I gave up on isolation in the intense heat wave.
It was like 95+ degrees around here for over a week, and I had to keep air going to not get too hot.

So I have been weaving a web with all sorts of LST technics:

I'm using steel 'candy cane' bolts, s-hooks, bungie cords, and twine to shape the plant where I want it to go.
At 31 days bloom of @ 70 day cycle I am still LSTing heavy.
Stretch is pretty much done finally, and buds are starting to pack on.

My bloom room is 5' x 4' with about 4' of useable height before I burn up in the HID lamp in center.
The cheese plant is covering most of it already.
The canopy is about 24" from top of medium to upper growth.

Seed developement looks real good so far: it definately got hit good with pollen.
So much new growth since last week though that there will plenty of good smoke as well when ripe.

Here's a couple more shots showing the LST:

Had to do a 180 on that one branch.
Second pic shows spacing of branches out far.
It's starting to look like a spider web.

Hopefully I am pretty much done with the LST work now.
I was able to sneak my Strawberry Diesel into the room by feeding Cheese through her.

I'm now at 35 Days bloom cycle and they are starting to put on some trichomes.
Seeds appear to be developing normal and some buds are packed with them.

The Fat Marty plant in the left rear I hit at same time did a lot more new growth so far than the Cheese.
But I did get some seed action going there as well.
It was only in bloom a week or ten days as opposed to 3 and half weeks for the Cheese when I pollinated.

    Same image progressively closer above.
As you can see I also got plenty of new growth on Cheese since pollination.

My temps are running about 68 to 70 during lights out and 75 to 78 during lights on.
It goes up and down all day because I switch the side lighting at half hour intervals.
I made my own cloud cover to mimic nature; so the light intensity changes throughout the 'day'.
    I am the Bullgod.

I'm around 45 days into bloom cycle and all looks and smells good so far.

Here is a shot from 40 days of the bloom:

The clones I took 3 or 4 weeks ago are ready to rock:

My experience with this for clones is they get preety pale but recover after a week or so.
My Fat Marty does the same thing to a lesser degree.

Speaking of FM; check this out at 33 days bloom:

I think there's a bit of cheese in FM; but no one knows what it is besides bad ass weed...
I hit that with the Cheese #1 male when I sprayed the female Cheese.
I'm pretty much growing Marty this go round to produce meds quick because I was behind on my stash.
Most of it will come down a piece at a time as I do what I've got to do.
But I definately will let some of it mature the seeds so I can see what happens there at a later date.

Sorry I've been derelict on updating this lately.

So at 50 days the buds are building tight; but I'm bumming a bit on yield worries.

Because I'm medical card I have plant number to follow and had invested a lot of real estate into Cheese #1 project.
I was getting lower than low on personal meds and starting to question my wisdom in putting so many eggs in one basket.

I had thought the massive stalk would put out more bud even though I seeded it pretty heavy.
As it turned out there was more than enough left even though I snipped a couple large branches off early.

The 'Cheese' smell started getting serious around 60 days.
Up until them you could get a nice whiff of flower mixed with the stink.
But tha skunk took over and all one can say is 'Yep - that's the Cheese".

53, 54, 54, and 56 days Bloom cycle above images.
It's getting heavy and the branches are trying to spread apart.
I used some mini bungee cords to hold it together for a few more days.

    I'm ready to cut.
Those branches I took are tasty man.
But I got to wait for seeds to finish up.
Other plants are really taking over grow room.

66 days bloom in first image - 69 days in other three.
Help! I've fallen and I can't get it up.

At 69 days I pull her out of bloom room overnight, and then cut her down the next morning:

I trimmed what was left while it was hanging on a bungee cord from a hook in the ceiling.
It wasn't that much fun; but I was trying to leave seeds intact on stalks and it worked pretty good.

Last pic is some of the buds drying after clearing from the stalk.
Not the prettiest stuff I ever grew - that's for sure.
Hey no one said it was painless making seeds - this was well worth the effort and I feel fortunate to have had the chance.

The smoke from this is as good as any Cheese I have ever smoked.
It is better than the U.K. Cheese cut I grew a year or two ago a few times.
    Really.
I was smoking some with the Purple Marty my friend sent me to sample, and I feel like they are peers.
That's a high compliment man. Purple Marty rocks too.

    So I got more pictures of the clone before and into bloom for a few days at present;
I will sort through them and continue the journal so we can all see what I can get out of this bad grrl seedless.
Back to update more in a few days or so.
