Back for a quick update. For those of you you who've been with me this far, thanks, I appreciate your interest; and for everyone else, welcome to the Coco & LED grow closet grow! Things have been great so far. Last time we checked in, I had 2 White Domina autoflowers that were just beginning to show signs of flowers. They vegged excellently, if you want to go back in my past entries you can see the pics. I've been using the entire line of CANNA Coco products and nutrients and I've been really happy with them so far. I also have a bottle of House & Garden Magic Green that I spray them down with every 10 days or so.

It will be two weeks this Saturday that I also picked up a Power Skunk seedling and added it into the mix. It's become a beast to say the least and is basically ready to start flowering too. Out of the two White Domina plants, there is a noticeable difference in appearance. One is considerably taller than the other. It's like one of the girls grew up tall and skinny, and the other grew short and stocky with way more undergrowth. I'm not quite sure why this happened. I think one of the seedlings was a week or so younger than the other, so maybe that had something to do with it. But the tall one, that one was actually smaller than the short stocky one as seedlings. Both still look great though. Take a look for yourself, I've added a few pictures for this update.

Hey, welcome back to the Coco & LED grow journal. Sorry I've been M.I.A. lately but here is the latest with my two White Domina autoflowers...

They've been under the LED for 24/7 since I got them during week 1-2 of their lives. I put them in CANNA coco about week 3 and started introducing the entire line of CANNA nutrients. The plants love life, I love them, I love CANNA, the plants love CANNA, the plants love LED, my PG&E bill loves LED...everything seems to be working in harmony right now. Let's hope it stays that way because we're about to enter flower mode.

A couple nights ago they popped out a few pistils so the next batch of nutrients I mix up, I'm probably going to start adding the Boost. That should be in another day or two. I'm really happy with the growth and development so far. The leaves are healthy and stems are sturdy. I'm just wondering how many plants my light can actually handle. I have space for one more 3g bucket for my next round so I think I'll be adding an extra plant in the future because 2 plants are doing excellent so I'm sure another won't hurt.

Now we're getting to the exciting part with the flowering because a lot of the skepticism and criticism I encountered on the web revolves around how well the plants bud under LEDs. The popular belief out there seems to be that LEDs can't produce weight during flowering. On the other end, a lot of people who actually use LEDs say the resin and trich levels are insane. I'm hoping for a good combination of resin, trich, and density...isn't that what we all really want anyway?

So, enough rambling, let's see some pictures!

Welcome back. It's been about a week since I gave them their first feed with the nutrients. I didn't go full strength on the Coco A & B and Rhizotonic and that's all that I used for the first week. Tonight or tomorrow they will be getting their first dose of Cannazym. I'm going to still keep it light on the nutrients but a little more than last time and increase gradually.

I finally gave up on the one that never grew true leaves. It wasn't doing anything, no growth, no development so I cleared room for more concentration on the two that are actually growing. I put pictures up last time the day they got their first feed and this is what they've done in 6 days under the LED in coco with CANNA nutrients. I'm happy to say the least.

Here's some pictures, not the best of quality with the lights on but wanted at least one picture with the full effect.

Welcome back to the Coco & LED grow journal. A quick recap to bring you up to speed in case you haven't been following along so far. The entire CANNA line of products is being used. The plants, which are autoflowering White Domina, are a couple weeks in from germination; and after germing went from rockwool cubes, and then into soil while under two T5 lights, they got moved under the LED a week ago today.

Two days ago the plants were transplanted into the 3 gallon coco buckets. And they were given there first dose of nutrients (about 1/4 strength) with the first watering.

After experimenting with proper light heights, it seems that it might be best around 18 inches for now. If anyone has input there, it would be greatly appreciated. But wow, the girls have really responded well to the everything. I can't say for sure if it was the coco, nutrients, or finding the right height for the light, that made something click, but I'm sure each one had a role it making the plants respond. They're developing some nice, healthy, leaves and the stems are starting to thicken up nicely. I've got a couple pics here of one of them.

And an update, I had 4 seedlings. The runt I mentioned before didn't make it. I tried everything I could to save it but it wasn't meant to be. And the third one still hasn't done anything, no true leaves ever developed. I still have it under the light and moved it to coco with the others so we'll see. Keep you guys updated on that one. But for now, main focus is on the two that are thriving.

Thanks again for stopping by. I see the view numbers going up, but no feedback? Come on, spread the knowledge and help me out here! I'm still learning so any words of wisdom will be taken with gratitude.

That's all for now, update again in a few days. See you next time!

*****UPDATE*****Feb. 28, 2011*****UPDATE*****

Welcome back everybody to my first ever Coco & LED grow journal. It's the last day of February, and I just picked up my seedlings over the weekend. I have 4 Kannabia autoflowering White Domina seedlings that are ranging in age from sprouting up about 8-14 days, give or take since it didn't get recorded. The seeds were germinated using the paper towel method. When the seeds cracked they were put into rockwool cubes and placed under 2 T5 lights. Then they were recently placed into soil last week.

They have now been under my LED light for the past 48 hours, and for the most part I'm happy to say doing well. They are still in soil, 2 are doing better than the others and have responded to the light well. One still has yet to grow true leaves, but I'm thinking that it was one of the later to sprout. The last one, is basically dead, not sure exactly what happened to it before I got it, but it was super tiny when I got it, I'm talking like not even the first pedals grew all the way out. I came home from work today to find it laying down like it's lower vertebrae was missing right by the soil. I propped it up, hoping it can turn itself around. When I first got them 2 days ago, two had already formed first true leaves and one of those was starting its second set. Now, the one that was starting its second popped out its third today and the other is starting to push out its second.

I know I promised pics but I don't have the best setup camera wise and I can't seem to get my phone to focus in to take pics I'm happy with. Trust me though, they're coming soon. For now, you'll have to just deal with my written illustrations. But I do have two of the closet/light and seedlings under it; no close ups of seedlings yet, that's what I'm waiting on the camera for.
To all you helpful coco and/or LED gurus out there, any advice you can give is genuinely appreciated, especially looking for info on the following topics:

1. Light to plant distances for veg and flower
2. Best time to start using Rhizotinic? do you think applying a small amount might help to save my dying seedling?
3. Best way to transplant from soil to coco...should I just add in all the soil to coco or try to get as much off as possible without damaging roots?
4. I'm sure I'll think of some others later

As always, any friendly advice, helpful tips and pointers, and encouraging comments are welcome.

Thanks again for stopping by, I'll have another update soon.

Thanks for stopping by. I'd just like to start things off by saying this is my first attempt at a grow. I know I still have a lot to learn and even though I've done my fair share of research, it's time for some hands-on experience.

Now, I'm going to address everyone who thinks they are going to come into my journal and hate on LED lights: Don't waste our time; I'm not putting forth all this effort to hear you bash on LED lights...and I'm hoping that everyone else who stopped by is actually interested in what I'm doing. I've read plenty of debates about "this kind of light is better and here's why" in other people's forums. That's not why I'm here, and if that's why you're here, please leave now.

So, why did I choose LED? There was a lot of consideration on my part whether I should go LED, HPS/MH, or Fluorescent lights, or even some crazy combination of two or more. But I decided to keep it simple and choose one of the three choices and not mix them. Because of the limited space I have to work with, and the number of situations where having a scorching hot light in such a confined space could go wrong, I ultimately decided to go with the LED light to reduce risk. And from what I am expecting, not seeing a spike in my PG&E bill will make the Mrs. happy. But what about all those guys who have proven that CFLs can grow a good crop? I'm sure they do a fantastic job, but my rationale for choosing LED over CFL was simplicity: I didn't have any interest in rigging up that many lights in my closet, and with the LED all I have is one cord to plug in.

And probably the biggest factor why I went LED was that the initial cost of the light wasn't considered an expensive purchase in my books, and I guess it could be considered to be a risky investment; however, it could have the potential to pay me back in more ways than just yield. Or it could totally fail, but you know what? I wouldn't care, I'd just try to figure out what went wrong, what I could do different, and get back at it again.

Ok, now with that out of the way, you're probably wondering a little bit about my setup. Here's the rundown:

3.5 ft long x 1 ft wide x 5ft tall Closet (it's actually half of a closet, best space I have available)
3W 180W LED light (private message me if you want to know the brand)
Three 3g buckets with Drain to Waste rig
Black-and-White 2 sided Panda Film throughout
A couple small desk fans

I'll be using the entire line of CANNA products for a coco grow:
Canna Coco
Canna Coco A & B
Rhizotonic
Cannazyme
Cannaboost
PK 13/14

I'll post pics of the closet in a few days. Shortly following that I'll get you guys up to speed since my seeds will be ready by then too.

Thanks again for stopping by. Hope you stick it out with me til the end. Any encouraging comments are welcome as is any helpful advice.

When I first got them 2 days ago, two had already formed first true leaves and one was starting its second set.
