I finally got a neat little jar to put her in, and she'd been hanging out for two weeks now, so I did a little inspection and some trimming of noncrystally leaves, btw I left some amount of very crystally leaves on, I can just deal with them later and maybe make something with them, plus I'm feeling like relaxing right now, barely got the will power to type. I took pics of the full jar just after putting her in, I dont know what it weighs, never weighed the jar. I'll just weight it when it's ready ready.
That's a PS3 game for size scale reference, I barely looked at these pics yet. They are all I could take, the batteries in my camera are basically undead. Was lucky to be able to upload them. So anyhoo just marking the date so I know for sure how long they've been in there, and yes, I'll be opening the jar every day to let the moisture and ghosts and whatnot out, as per the instructions from the old indian cheif, whom I've never met. this is some good sheesh...

Well, i chopped off her head, and the rest, but technically, she's still "alive" doing what plants do when they are cut down and hung to dry, mostly going "what the... ?" and trying to keep her blood flowing until she's dry enough for the jar. It may come as a suprise to you that this happened now, considering my last journal entry about how she's been going for over 4 months now, and my hesitation to take the next step, but as i tried to take another limb, I guess she had had enough of being picked apart and let her main stem take the hit, bending and crunching all at once, nasty sound, like bamboo. It seemed alright on the outside, but i was pretty sure that healing would be a pain for it, and it would be harder to focus on bud development, so after some other branches were cut and hung, I took out the scissors and made two cuts, one at the injured spot, and later, one at the base. Spent some time getting fan leaves off, but there were still lots of little ones I didn't bother trimming yet, they all looked crystally so I figured I'd hang onto them and get them later. I'll look up how to do stuff with them when the time comes, but for now I'm playing the waiting game, waiting for nature to do it's thing and turn that flower into what it was born to become, sweet sweet maryjane. also, I'm gonna need a bigger jar. have no exact plan for how long I need to dry before cure with this humidity, it's 30% in here, so, not sure how to calculate approximate drying time. Don't want to over or under dry, of course. also, keeping light off of it in here might be a challenge. The HDTV I use as both a PC monitor and a ... TV, is pretty bright. It's the only "light" on in here and I can see everything just fine, the white background helps in that regard. so, anyhoo, my first female plant has made it this far, let's hope she can finish her journey succesfully. here's some pics of her hanging. May not update again until she's dry and ready, unless there are questions or comments for me to address. Seems Like it all worked out pretty damn well.<img src="http://www.rollitup.org/attachments/politics/1789173d1316144976t-failure-drug-war-dscf1426.jpg" border="0" alt="Click image for larger version.

sidenote, I hung the bottom as one large multibranching piece because, well, ran out of twist ties, and it was the last available "V" shape on her to hang with, that may slow down the overall progress, but I'll try to get more twist ties or something if it's definetly a problem. Probably won't be. Also Like I said I had cut off a significant amount beforehand so that's why it's in a wierd shape. here's the big piece from below. <img src="http://www.rollitup.org/attachments/politics/1789174d1316145049t-failure-drug-war-dscf1432.jpg" border="0" alt="Click image for larger version.

Well, that about wraps that up, wish I had better pics to show, they all turned out fuzzy on the close ups so, hard to show it off. anywhoo, I'll let you guys know how it tastes when I can. Hopefully by Halloween. Remember to spread peace and love, and that you cant shake hands with a clenched fist. And to respect the will of others, while believeing in your own. See you in the end.

In case you didn't see my last post, I've been growing a lowryder #1 (by The Joint Doctors) way longer than I should have, hoping to see definitive signs of it being "ready" or perhaps just to see how long it would live if left unchecked, and of course hoping for bigger better buds. My last update was before day 100, and now, the math is easier to just say 4 and a half months. Over twice it's expected lifespan.

Now like most of you, I could hardly wait to taste the fruits of my labor, so a branch or two was cut down, first by accident while trimming leaves, then deliberatly. Some has been drying for a couple weeks. I taste tested when they felt close to ready, mixed results, but over all it has a good future when fully dry and cured. Looking nice and crystal-y, smokes clean, it's organic so I guess that helped the taste. If I were to estimate total yeild, factoring in what I already chopped and what that weighed, I'd say 10 grams minimum is still on the vine, so to speak. Probably more.

Let's see, what else... Some of the fan leaves have been tuning yellow over the last month, and as I cut them down, others turn yellow within days, so I decided to let yellows yellow, and take them off when they dry up. Also for a while I replaced my "60watt equivilent" cfl with a 100 watt incandecent, but after burning my arm while watering, and realizing how much it raised the temps in here, I changed it to a 75 watt, and then eventually back to the same 60watt equivilent cfl.

I really would hurry up and chop her down if I had everything I needed to dry it and jar it properly, so far I've only cut what i could dry in here. A buddy is getting me a good jar soon. I have string. Also, not sure if i mentioned it, but i got a hygrometer, according to it the humidity is 31% right now, not sure what that means for drying time. It started at 60 or 50, then as summer got here and I put the AC in, it dropped.

Also, I kinda feel bad about, you know, killing my first female plant, especially knowing its a slow death, basically bleeding out after being cut in half, I can empathize, and Ive grown attached to her, been wishing her well so long, and now I have to end her life with my own hands, it's really tragic and depressing if you ask me. Maybe thats why I hoped for a natural death or at least a sign she was going to die anyhow, so that it would be a mercy killing in a way. I feel like Snake aiming at Grey Fox while Liquid is crushing him with Rex at the end of Metal gear solid. You know you should take the shot and fire that missile to destroy rex, but you just can't do it with your buddy Grey fox there. Hes giving his life to give you that opportunity to shoot, but you cant do it. I'm tearing up just thinking about it.
Shut up, I'm not crying. here's some pics, you heartless bastards.
Alrighty, it's been just over ten weeks since she was planted. It's funny, every week I find myself saying "two more weeks, tops" but this time I really think I mean it, two more weeks would be 3 months total, but I'm sure by then she'd have finished up already, it still seems like she needs more time so I'm giving it to her, but I'm cutting her off at the end of the month, give or take. I wonder, because she's an auto, when she is genetically programmed to die of old age? I know they are mortal, you can't reveg or make them mother plants, so how long do they live if conditions stay the same(still lighting and watering) and I don't cut it down yet, or even, at all?(but not cutting them down at all and waiting for them to just die doesn't sound like it will work out, or will it?)
Anywhoo, This girl is a lot bigger than most of the pictures I've seen of this strain, maybe I got lucky, just to remind you, she's a Feminized Lowryder #1 by "The Joint Doctors" I picked up from attitude, I planted the other two seeds during the winter, huge mistake, it was way to cold that winter, but I just couldn't wait for spring, I had 'em and wanted to put them to use. So, anyhow, she's lookin' alright, the trics(that's what those crystals are called, right?) are still clear or white, it's hard to tell them apart, no scope. A lot of the pistils are orangeish but there's still a bunch of white ones all over. well, I'll just refer to the pics above but they aren't perfect. Oh, and if you want to play "Guess My Yield" from the pics go ahead, she's still alive and breathing so there's no way to cheat, and when she's dry and ready we'll see how everyone did. For size reference she is about 20-20 1/2" tall, I say "about" 20 because I can't get the measuring stick right in the dirt, too much plant in the way. Questions or comments are cool, I like knowing I'm not the only one reading this.
I tried my butt off to get some "Big Bloom" for her but I still haven't been able to pick any up, I was going to order online but there was a ten dollar delivery charge, plus the price of a card plus tax, I just didn't have enough on hand. I think it's too late for nutes anyhow, she's getting old by auto standards, I wonder if she'll just die off naturally and if that's a bad thing. I'm just not sure when to pulll the plug, other than when most of the hairs turn colors, or something like that. this is my first harvest after all. I still have to figure out how I'm going to dry it, too. TONS of side branches also have good buds all over them. The trichromes are starting to show up on leaves now too, as you can see from the up close shot, when you zoom in it actually shows up better there than in real life. A few side notes, I have barely been able to smell her at all throughout her entire life so far, so the lowryder name fits the smell profile too, which is fantastic, cause smell or no smell is a big deciding factor for me when I select my future. Also, just eyeballing it, I'd expect it to yeild anywhere from a 1/4 to a full oz. The few people who've seen her in person also guess about that much. I don't like to count chickens before they hatch though, but still, it's already showing much more bud than what some auto haters claim it's capable of. Under a $40 LED, two CFLs and in FFOF, no additional suppliments, in a bucket it's whole life. And yes I said my LED was $40, and it's a good one too. Anyway, despite all the under-rated conditions and such, things are going fantastic, but just running slightly slower than I anticipated, although I've heard of lowryders going for two weeks past the 60 day mark, it's about four days away from being that old. The next time I post it just might be a "prechop" update and review thing. or just pics when it starts to look different again. anyhoo, the ride isn't over yet.

So, with this new 2nd lamp I can cover two sides at once instead of just turning the bucket once in a while, and the top is covered pretty well by the LED, should provide a nice little boost. The bulbs there are CFLs in the 2700k spectrum, I just happen to have them, looked them up specifically online and yup, 2700k. This new lamp is a good find for another reason though, it says 250W 250V on it, little old school but UL listed, it can probably handle a nice new high powered bulb and pop that sucker in there, I've seen a few nice looking bulbs under 250 watts that might be a little tall for this thing, but I think I can get that bar off so it'll be fine, the other lamp there is "100W MAX" but this new one has potential I think, Just wish I had it sooner, got it at a yard sale, 4 bucks. But yeah, this plant's journey is almost over, but there's still time to go, I hope the extra light doesn't go against it's "fall" flowering instints, but it's The Joint Doctors Lowryder 1, THE auto, so it'll probably do just fine. Here's a couple more pics. <img src="http://www.rollitup.org/attachments/newbie-central/1665648d1309125356t-my-plants-ready-harvest-dscf1298.jpg" border="0" alt="Click image for larger version.

Not sure how well these pics turned out, but She looks awesome from here. Smells nice too, not overpowering, but every few minutes I get a whiff and frankly it gives me the munchies, I just hope my nose doesn't grow numb to it, I love this smell! Can't wait for her flowers to swell up and fill out and all that. This will be a fun two weeks, Heck, it's been fun already. I love how fast Autos grow, so much more fun to watch than that bagseed that turned male. I measured this morning, and even after the additional layer of soil I added a few days back, it's over 13-14 inches above the soil line, and it's WIDE too, about 21 or so inches at least. Just eyeballing it, I'd bet I wind up with at least a quarter, if not a half. But I don't want to count chickens before they hatch. There's at least two weeks to go, but I'm in no rush really, just enjoying the ride.

Tons of pics to show, Lots of the side branches have hairs at the tops and corners, the hairs are actually visible this time, I count at least 8-10 spots that are showing hairs right now, and thats counting both sides of the middles as one spot. Also a few wide shots of her from above with the LED pulled away. I didn't get to study these myself too much, because I just took them, camera sucks, nice and medicated, and they don't really do her justice at all. That being said, enjoy!

Bushed up fairly quick, and other than some small damage to leaves from a slip up, looks pretty good. Did I mention I saw hairs? If you're good at "where's Waldo" you can try to find them in the pics. They are very thin, and they're only in a few spots so far, but they are kinda visable in some of these pics. Unless I uploaded the wrong ones. Just about 4 more weeks now, give or take, until my first harvest. Probably closer to 5.

The leaves have really grown alot in one day, pics in a moment, I think it's due to the start of flowering, or the increased temperature in the room, or both. Also they are back on 24 hours of light for a while. They can sleep in on the weekend if they need it. Oh, and it seems she is also responding to the watering well. I've been trying really hard not to overwater, and when I do water it, it seems to react well almost right away. The leaves got taller fast, and general growth all around is accelerating. Perhaps the water activated the nutes in the FFOF soil, and it's the nute burst that she's feeling. In any case she looks healthy, and I hope this rate of growth continues or speeds up, becuase I'm not sure if I mentioned this before, but very early in her life the light was a little far away, which may have slowed it down, and then it was too close, which helped it catch up but also had consequences, and now it's just about right, and seemingly loving it, however it isn't quite matching up to other peoples timeframe estimates that I have read. On the otherhand, this sped up growth is working fine for me, still just over a month to go, and a month of this kind of growth will do just fine. And like I mentioned before, if she needs more time, I'll give it to her, no problem. Alright, enough chit-chat. Here's some pics...

First two shots from yesterday....
<img src="http://www.rollitup.org/attachments/general-marijuana-growing/1620072d1306334656t-giant-leaves-dscf1200.jpg" border="0" alt="Click image for larger version.
Notice the 7 finger leaves are reaching much further now, and the top has opened up more and expanded, and some other harder to notice details, the lower branching is improving as well, getting a bit bushy down there, I have a pic of that too...

<img src="http://www.rollitup.org/attachments/general-marijuana-growing/1620096d1306462552t-giant-leaves-dscf1209.jpg" border="0" alt="Click image for larger version.
Of course it's blurry, but you get the idea, there was less before.
So, long story short, "Hey, check it out, she got bigger in a day!"

Okay then, with less blurry pics, I can point out how the lower branches are starting to take off a little, most likely because I turned the bucket slightly, making the bulb point diagonally, instead of lining up directly with either side of the outer leaves like this "o+", I hit it like this "oX" ("o" is the bulb) that way it lights up the center of the plant and hits those new branches and all that, while still lighting up those outer leaves. Alright, that'll about do it for now. Glad I got better pics up, but it seems my other post is already pages away anyhow. As if every time I post, everyone else wants to post all of a sudden, but maybe I'm just baked. But maybe I'm not. Maybe UFO's are real. Maybe I'll order a pizza.

Excuse my poor photography, batteries are low and could only take a few. Also the camera sucks in general.
It's been a while, actually I haven't updated this since I started this one out, so just to let you know she's still kicking, here's some pics and stuff.
I think at first I kept the light a little too close for comfort, you can probably see the slight discoloration of some of the older fan leaves, the one with 3 instead of 5. It looked like the chlorophil was starting to go, so I backed it off, in the pic it's pulled away another inch or so to take the pic, it's normally right next to it but not leaning like before. You can't tell but above that is my square led panel that I used on my last attempt, you know, this guy... and of course my ceiling light, which has a cfl bulb in there, every little bit counts right?
Anyhoo, from what I read I should be able to determine it's sex sometime soon, but I don't have a magnifying glass, so I'll have to wait for the signs to be more obvious. I'm not worried though, they are feminized seeds and it said in the description it's stable and "hermaphrodie-free" so the odds are good at least. And every day it seems this thing gets bigger, an example, three days ago the oldest fan leaves just barely reached the sides of the bucket, then suddenly they were pressing against it, and the 5 finger leaves were on their way to the side, now one of them is peeking over the edge too, and the other side is almost there. I used to be able to give them darkness by simply covering the bucket with something I have, But soon I'll need a whole new way to get them some sleep. or I could try going 24 from here, I've had them on a wobbly 18/6 for a while, I'll let them decide, if it slows down or looks sad I'll give them some sleep somehow. Or if I can correct my sleep cycle long enough, just use natural darkness, but i watch alot of tv so that could be hard. Enough about me, the plant smells pretty good for not being far into flowering, I remember the male smelled alright too for a while, even in veg. anyway, I'll wrap this up. I should be harvesting this around the 4th of july, if the estimates are correct, UNLESS it looks like it wants more time, because if she can grow bigger, by all means I'm going to let her. This will be my first harvest after all, I want to remember it, before I forget, lol.

Out of a pack of 3, this is the only one that actually germinated, the others sadly never made it. Needless to say, I was pleasantly suprised to see her, given the odds, but the others were planted in winter so maybe the spring helping instead. In any case, The soil is a mix of FFOF and two potting soils with fuzzy details, but that seem to be nute heavy a bit, more on that another time. I'm using a bucket that probably holds 3 or 4, maybe 5 gallons, I'm not a good judge of that, and I know, the picture of lowryder #1 shows it inside a BigGulp cup from 7 11, so a big bucket is really unneccisary, but that's just how it happened, first I was testing out some seeds I got from a seedy bud, two came up, I plucked one weak looking one and let the other grow a few, then for giggles I tried the last one of three lowryder seeds I got, I figure I know the soil and conditions are good enough so why not. When it sprouted I decided to transfer the other existing plant to a smaller bucket, probably "set it free" later instead of just killing it for the space. As I did that, I carefully re-centered the lowryder to the middle. It's still very small, oh, actually as I wrote this it got about a cm taller, cool. anyway I doubt I did anything bad to it as I moved it, I was crafty. At the moment I'm using an energy efficent bulb of some kind plugged into a desk lamp. I also have the LED lights that got my male plant pretty far, far enough to figure out it's male at least. That light is off at the moment because the desk lamp is actually in the way of it. When it gets some more leaves I'll turn that on too. Also the sun and an overhead room light. and a TV. Maybe I'm talking too much. I'm just exited about this, I'm soo freakin' glad that at least one of these costly seeds is going to work, that is assuming I do my job well enough. Anything out of this baby and they will have paid for themselves, and save me a trip to the market, so to speak. Doing this has been a dream of mine for a long time, and it's a joy living it. Alright, enough sappy stuff, I'll be posting more info and pics when it starts to look different or cooler or if there are questions or comments that's cool too, I may answer them, and appreciate any good advice.
Oh and once again, I'm starting the clock today, so let's see what happens in 60 days... cool, 4th of july is around that time.

So, after some time of "wait and see" it just kept looking more and more male and less like anything else, and I totally stopped caring about light for a few days. then a few hours ago while smoking and looking at it, I was thinking of the best way to do it, because I felt bad about it, and how one way I could do it is just pull it up, like this, and that's exactly how it happened. I grabbed it by the main trunk I guess and just lifted up, the roots tore up with not much resistance. then I kinda played with the plant, swinging it around like a magic wand. I probably could have cast a powerful spell using a fresh plucked male as a wand. I just didn't think of one. then as it started bending and breaking from wear and tear and wind resistance, I just kinda mindlessly kept bending and breaking it up and folding it. I was like a man possesed, I had almost no concious control over it. I was sad, and I miss looking over at it, but I think I killed it quickly enough that it didn't suffer much, but if it kept going for very long, it may have, unfortunatly. All of it's parts are in a sandwich bag. I weighed it, it was about 45 grams of nothing. Funny thing is, if the seeds I bought had germed, they would have been done by now, they were autos. I still have one seed left, maybe by some miracle it'll germ, but most likely I'll have to do some shopping again soon.
If there is only one thing that I've learned from this, it's that my $40 red and blue LED light does it's job just fine. Got pretty tall and bushy before it turned out to be male. I'll have to wait until next time to give a review of it's effect on female plants in the flowering stage, but all indications are that it's a pretty strong efficient light that will work out nicely as the primary. I will also use cfls as side lighting when they get tall, and also the sun when the timing is right. But I digress, with this guy dead, I'll have to start over from scratch, so for anyone following this, this is where this particular story ends. I don't know when the next story will begin, but in a way it kinda already has. I'm gonna smoke go smoke something and hope my karma isn't affected by euthanizing that plant in such a brutal way. BTW they look like bamboo when you snap them in half. Fyi. anyhoot, it's been fun letting you strangers know how it goes. We should do this again sometime.
