I initially trained them to have 2 branches each.
At this stage they had already been topped to promote side branches and when repotted into the large (290mm square) hempy pot, I lay them down with about a 45 degree lean to further promote branch development.
A bit like LST, but without any stress or in fact any training - just lie them down and let them grow.
They even had exposed roots due to laying them down - but the plants didn't care, nor did I.
25th January, about ready to have screen fitted.
The screen was fitted after this photo was taken - I'll take another one in a few days time just before I switch to 12/12.
I have around 25 - 28 tops on the plants, each one to become a cola and all to be flowered under a single 36w light with cheap ass general purpose nutes.
This one is looking like it will be one bushy SCROG.

I have another clone that is growing balls due to Colloidal Silver treatment, I will be applying a bit of pollen to one cola when the time comes.

When the Magic Bud clones looked close to death, I planted 2 Barney's Farm L.S.D. feminised seeds as I expected to have a flowering space available as the Magic Bud were dieing.

The seeds were planted directly into Jiffy peat pellets on 1st December and the pellets with the young seedlings were put into small hempy pots on the 7th December.

The 2 seeds grew into 2 distinctly different phenotypes ...
These are the 2 L.S.D. plants - one germinated on 3rd Dec, one on the 5th - this photo was taken on the 25th December.
Same two plants on the 7th January - they have both been topped and defoliated and the one on the right has given up 2 clones and has been topped a second time to produce 4 branches.

As the plants are visually totally different, I expect that the smoke will be different ... so I will grow both ... one will be a 2 foot SCROG and the other will be just a "sample" grow whilst keeping the genetics safe for a future SCROG.

I don't usually follow the cute trend of naming plants, but to help keep track of the story I will call this plant "Phenotype 1" or "LSD-1" ... or something else with a number one in it.

This plant was topped on 25 December, defoliated on the 26th and had 2 clones removed on the 28th December. On 4th January the top 4 branches were removed leaving just 4 branches.

This plant is destined to become the root-stock and one strain of a multi-grafted mother plant.

I plant to add a graft from the LSD-2 pheno, a Red Dragon (clone rooted and growing) and a Magic Bud graft ... and leave one of the 4 branches as the LSD-1 pheno.

The 2 clones that I removed on 28th December have sent out roots and have just been potted into small hempy pots to get on with vegging. These 2 clones have a long 10 week wait for a flowering spot so I will slowly get them bushy.

This leaves Phenotype 2 ...

This girl has looked crazy since it was born - there is a distinct deformity of several leaves and it is extremely vigorous - if I hadn't topped and defoliated it, it would be 2 foot tall by now.

Because of the repeating leaf deformity I think the genetics may be a bit suspect so I'll wait to see what the smoke is like before deciding whether to make seeds.

Once I have attached a graft of this pheno to the "Mother" plant I will put it under 12/12 and flower it. I may prune heavily first depending on how big it is.
If I like the smoke of this pheno I will grow out a full SCROG at a later time.

I attached the SCROG screen to my second Red Dragon grow today, terminal flower buds are just appearing (10 days of 12/12) - I'll take a pikkie in a day or so.

... to continue with the story,

Feminized seeds produced with pollen from stress induced hermies will generally result in hermie plants from the seeds.
If the plant is difficult to turn hermie through stress it is a very good plant to produce pollen and/or seeds from.

Using Colloidal Silver on a plant has nothing to do with stressing the plant.
What happens (in terms that I can just about understand) is that the silver molecules bind themselves to copper molecules in the bud sites of the plant.
Copper is used for ethelyne production by the plant which is used for bud production in female plants.
By binding up the copper molecules and making them unavailable, the Colloidal Silver suppresses the ethelyne production and effectively tricks the plant into thinking it is male.
Again, it has nothing to do with stress, and if the plant didn't have a genetic inclination towards being a hermie, then the seeds will not have the hermie trait either.

To use Colloidal Silver you simply spray the selected plant (or bud or branch of a plant) with colloidal silver before putting it under 12/12 lighting. Repeat the application until male flowers appear.

The fact that you can treat a single bud or branch on a plant and ONLY that area will produce male flowers allows you to harvest pollen and keep flowering the parent plant as a female.
Simply remove the affected branch as the male flowers are reaching maturity and stick it in a flower vase while the pollen sacs ripen.

Being able to treat a portion of a plant without the rest of the plant being affected is a further indication that the plant is not being stressed - if it was being stressed then the pollen production wouldn't be localised to the treated area.

But isn't Colloidal Silver expensive and/or difficult to make?

The answer is no to both questions as is explained in the next installment ...

The topic of Feminized seeds normally causes a difference of opinion as well as a few mis-truths by those who dislike Feminized seeds.

Statements...

The topic of Feminized seeds normally causes a difference of opinion as well as a few mis-truths by those who dislike Feminized seeds.

Statements saying that Feminized seeds are from hermies and will grow hermies are basically wrong and would hardly reflect good business practice from long established breeders in a very cut-throat seed market.

Cannabis plants have a strong compulsion towards survival of the species, and, should the plant encounter conditions that it is "genetically programmed" to recognise as threatening, it may produce flowers of the opposite sex.

Some plants have a high tolerance to stress/threats and others have a much lower tolerance, the ones with the lower stress tolerance are "more likely to go hermie" than those with a high tolerance.

A plant that hermies easily with very little stress will prodce seeds that will grow into plants with the same low stress tolerance. These seeds are not recommended to be grown.

If you have a plant that has survived being mistreated and only produced a couple of male flowers late in flowering, then those seeds are worth keeping. They will grow into female plants that can take a fair amount of stress, and if you don't stress them they will most likely never grow a ball.

Some plants simply won't respond to stress by producing male flowers. These are the plants that you would like to collect pollen from as the pollen should pass on the stress resistant gene.
Self pollination would be best as both "parents" are the same and the stress resistant gene is not diluted.
How to get the pollen?
Plants grown beyond fully ripe flowering often produce male flowers in a "last ditch" attempt as species survival. Pollen taken from such a plant wouldn't tend to produce hermies as the pollen donor didn't succumb to stress but lived to old age.

Growing plants well past their prime to harvest pollen is time (and resource) consuming and not easily controlled.

A more efficient, easily controlled, way is to induce male flowers without subjecting the plant to any stress.

This is where Colloidal Silver is useful.
