Have you looked at ebb/flow systems?

They are super simple and reliable...

Plus it's the most convenient way of doing SOG perpetual, as the plants are in pots and can be moved...

You can make it as big or as small as you'd like...

Another cheap and easy way is...

DIY Hydro Thingy

But the pots can't move, so it is not that good for SOG perpetual...

Man, I haven't really decided on exactly what I'm gonna do yet, it was more or less just an idea. Thanks for the links, I will definitely look into those.
