Default How easy is it to cross strains?
I was wondering how easy would it be to play god alittle bit and make my own strains?

I have some thoughts about Skunk #1 and Pure power plant.
Or Hindu kush and Power Plant.

Im guessing it is as easy as pollinating the female....but are there strains that just wont mix?

Just wondering.

If anyone is interested in comparing ideas and talk about other strains plz feel free to PM me or leave it here.

you can mix any strain with any strain. its as easy as 1. gathering male pollen 2. applying said pollen to female 3. letting seed develope!

Just crossed some Blueberry and White Widow.

It is easy, just don't let the male go crazy all
over your girls...I used a q-tip to collect the
pollen, and hit the girls young.

I now have a few BlueWidow seeds developing
on the stems of two girls...

Pics down there if you want to check it out...

The problem, if you want to call it that, is that when you cross two strains (BB and Haze Mist for example) you end up with a mix-matched set of phenotypes within each seed. You may have a handful of seeds, but you wont know if you're getting a sativa or indica dominant plant... Or possibly one seed will grow to be completely packed with crystals and dark green leaves and the one right next to it will be the exact opposite... This is why it takes so many years of back breeding to weed out all of the genes that growers dont want. Its why it takes so long to create any really solid new strain.

Good luck!!

Blue widow is an excellent strain, although it needs a little more care than most. I have some myself, good call!

This is a very accurate post! one worthy of REP. you need to read and understand how to select the traits you want then test a few mothers. then while keeping the males and females alive you need to grow and develope the off spring.

to really put it in perspective you could have 3 - 4 gens of inbreeding alive at one time to really make a home run.

Mom
Dad

Next

mom dad and 5 kids
from those best 2 girls
with dad. this will show you more traits your male has.

So we have

mom dad
2 new girls
they will make
5 each you take the best 2
and a boy.

mom dad
2 older girls
2 newer girls
and a new boy.

at this point you should have some stabilty. so germ a batch of 50
if your stain is stable they will have the traits you have selected and bred in.

Otherwise its a pot shot in the dark

2 great plants sometimes makes SHIT.... more often than not!

I honestly thought it would be a simple answer to this question. I am REALLY glad i asked, and must admit doing something like this sounds really exciting!

OK so ive put some thought into this....and after going thru a few different strains and what to look for in those strains, I thought to myself, why not take two of the same strains ex: hindu kush and hindu kush... and just inbreed those down till they are a super version of the to parent plants.

Doing this would not only be a wonderfull learning experiance, but would also have some pretty high rewards without alot of mistake in the genes.

Damn man now i have something to do while at the inlaws house for christmas.

Thanks again guys....having folks like you guys on the forums really inspires people to think out of the box. I would never have started this new hobby of mine without this site to fall back on.

that's a really good idea. narrows things down a little. when you start crossing different strains anything could happen.
