Daniel Fernandez is a Chemical Scientist/Botanist and he has an awesome blog, please see the links below any of which take you to his blog.. He is dedicated to solving the world hunger issue with very low cost Hydroponic systems, mixing your own nutrients, he has created a free hydro nutrient mixing program called Hydrobuddy. Tons of information specifically related to hydroponics and by a Chemical Scientist including info on stuff like Cobalt, Silicone and etc... Anyone else see his blog and a fat joint as a great Sunday?

Mixing your own damn nutrients for ridiculously cheap
Hydrobuddy is awesome it tells you step by step how to mix everything... Using only 3 or 4 main salts and some micro elements you can mix any formula you want. So say you see a label for something you wanna buy, anything scientifically proven useful to plants is usually listed on the label EXCEPT the micros sometimes. That is ok, we know trace elements are barely needed we can use our own mix for that with their other ratios.. So you see the power you have with just a few inexpensive salts, a gram scale and this program?

Copying or merging commercial nutrients
Hydrobuddy allows you to copy commercial nutrients using just the percentages of chemicals listed on a label with the weight of the liquids. So you are also able to get the final PPM contributions to your reservoir using this product, then do that same thing for all the remaining products you use.. Now you can have an idea of how much PPM of each element for example such as Nitrogen is the final value from mixing all your products!!! neat huh?

PH in Hydroponics

The fact here is that plants do not like abrupt pH changes like those that happen when you add pH up/down to continuously adjust your nutrient solution's pH levels. Plants can deal perfectly with a slow pH increase caused by nutrient absorption from 5.5 to 6.5 but when you - in a matter of seconds - revert the pH back from 6.5 to 5.5 in a matter of seconds you are causing your plants significant levels of stress since they are simply not used within their natural environment to such quick pH changes.

Ok here's the final thing, brace yourself though I saved the best for last..

Advanced Nutrients decided to convinced us that all other formulas are wrong, and theirs is right. They decided to do this by RELEASING THEIR LEAF TISSUE ANALYSIS for tons of MARIJUANA STRAINS!!!! If you didn't spit your bong hit out choking you misread what I said so read it again.. There's two videos, boy he seems on Cocaine to me.. At the bottom there is a PDF file containing that stack of information he is showing you and talking about in the videos.. All kinds of analysis data on all kinds of marijuana plants...

Glad you found it useful..

MeJuana's words on the now banned fatman7454

fatman7454, banned now, has a genius level IQ but doesn't know how to talk to people. Very incredibly smart people have this "holier than thou" mentality and possibly rightfully so, but if you boiled it all the way down that is the real reason he is banned.. I wish he wasn't because he may have been condescending, but he was here to help us all..

His blog is now a website so he stopped updating the blog. I bet you are going to the old blog but the Mac doesn't allow it to redirect you to the new website.. Here's the main link

@MeJuana I'm kinda lost with all this stuff. I was looking for a way to massage you but I can't seem to find one. I'm attempting to understand but chemistry is the hardest time in class I've ever had. I don't understand how to even use the calculator. I feel like a lobotomized zombie with the ability of comprehension I'm getting from this subject but I just can't seem to grasp how this works. I want to use hydrobuddy and I tried but but fuck me I don't even know what density it's asking for. I'd love a little help to help cut back on buying nutes every week.

You don't even need density. No wonder you're having such a hard time.

If you really want to find density.... Get the product, measure the mass of the liquid inside it, and divide it by the volume of the liquid. Density = mass/volume.

But you don't really need it to make stock solutions from a recipe. Instead of trying to reverse engineer what you have, start with an actual recipe from the formula database.

Please think of DIY nutrients like baking. You are saying that you find making cookies to be hard, but when given a list of recipes, including betty crocker (hoagland), you ask how to find the density of a cookie in a bag of Entenmann's, then sulk as you feel you will never be able to bake.

Follow one of the recipes first. Stop trying to reverse engineer products where the recipe is unknown.

Not density but rather atomic mass. Although you don't need to know that either because Hydrobuddy handles that for you. If you are just curious let's consider Epsom Salt MgSO4 7H2O. This is a complicated chemical compound it is a little difficult to understand what percentage of the powder is actually Magnesium and Sulfur by weight/volume. So let's pick it apart. Again Epsom Salt = MgSO4 + 7H2O and breaking that chemical symbol apart; Mg = 1 atom of Magnesium, S = 1 atom of Sulfur and O4 is 4 Oxygen atoms. The last part 7H2O means it has 7 water molecules for every 1 of the first part "i.e. hydrate". You could look at the periodic table yourself to figure out the weights to determine the percentage of Magnesium/Sulfur or use a web tool like so that does just that:
http://www.convertunits.com/molarmass/MgSO4+++7H2O
(So it's roughly 9.8% Magnesium and 13.01% Sulfur of it's weight and now you know what the other 77.19% is too!)

Misterblah on this forum has reverse engineered a lot of nutrients and really explained things well I think you would benefit a lot from reading this thread for starters
https://www.rollitup.org/t/reverse-engineering-everyones-nutrients.893906/

P.S.
There are a lot of great threads by fatman also and I recommend Google. Let me know if I forgot anything

Also keep in mind that you can google "molar mass of magnesium sulfate heptahydrate" and it gives you 247 g/mol without even having to go to one of the search results.

Search google for "molar mass of magnesium" and you get 24.3g/mol.

There is 1 Mg in MgSO4.7H2O, therefore there is 24.3/247 = 9.84% Mg in MgSO4.7H2O

and now you know what the other 77.19% is too!
To be more explicit for the people who still can't put it together, it's mostly oxygen.
