I have been reading around, but I always thought that their sex is determined in the seed, not how it is grown.

Thoughts?

it is....... unless its hemaphrodite. which brings up another question, do all plant have the gene for hermie? they must if you can turn one hermie by your actions...ie to much heat. fem seeds, can those hermie? i would think so.

i have heard and read (marijuana horticulture medical grower bible) that giving seedlings flourecent light in the cool blue spectrum along with feeding nitrogen will increase the number of females. this is how i have done all my seedlings but i dont know if it is fact.

also that book was published 2006 so info isnt that old

enviroment influence male and females traits.stress can cause male flowers on a female plant like extreme temps or messing with the light scedule.
high nitrogen,low potassium,high humidity,consistent low temps,and more of the blue light spectrum all cause you to have more females and this happens early on.that's why it's best to have your grow room all set before you even begin.feminized seeds have a tendency to go hermie if stressed depending on how the seeds were femenized in the first place.it's because of knowing this i use regular seeds with great success.
ps. there is also manufactured hormones that can change a plants sex.from female to male.

I gave a plant a sex change once, but it got depressed and killed itself. I guess you just can't force things to live the life you want for them.
