I've seen numerous posts where people talk about cutting leaves back to expose bud sites. Do the buds getting light have a positive effect on the plant? I thought they got their energy from the leaves, I don't understand the reason to cut them away so the light can hit the buds?

don't cut the leaves the people who say you should and it gives them better weed probably have never had really good weed. Most likely a bud will grow to over the level of the leaf or the leaf will fall off on its own

If you want to you can spread the fingers on the fan leaf and slip the node through so its above the fan leave and it will keep on growing up after that

good question : my understanding is that the light is used by the leaves not the bud.

Yea from what I've heard on here your not suppose to remove and leaves. If any thing move them back behind another branch if u can to expose the bud sites

The buds getting light have a positive effect on the buds! Cutting leaves off however, especially in there entirety is not a great idea. Like you said, the plants do derive energy from the leaves because the leaves double as storage facilities for nutrients and little sugar factories. It is best, like someone mentioned before, to try and move or manipulate the buds and fan leaves so that the leaves are not shading the buds. Simply moving them to the side is a very effective method.

I can tell you from experience it is VERY important to allow direct light to the budsites. My friend and i were growing some squat indicas with huge fan leaves. We tried all we could to bend and move the leaves but they were so huge something simply had to be done. He insisted that we cut the leaves across the blade.. I can tell you it did make an INCREDIBLE difference. I did not see any noticable negative side effects. Only noticable difference was the buds that were once shaded began to swell and mature.

I know some obsessive people who like to over-do things. Remember if your going to cut anything from your plant, do it in moderation. Dont go all Edward Scissorhands on the old girls. Hope this helps.

I say tuck the leaves...or tie em if U like...DON'T CUT'EM....Plus U can cut the top and let the lowers bulk up.. and reach the colour of trichs U like....I find the lower trichs aren't as developed as the colas R...so if U let em(lowers) go a bit longer you wont miss Ur window

supercrop... that will open ur plant so the lil buds at the bottom mature.... it will also optimize ur space by filling in the holes/gaps where there is no weed
