Default Beginner with advanced questions - looking for solid advice please
I am going to attempt my first grow and have some questions about nutrients that I haven't found out here yet (granted, there are so many posts I can't go through them all so forgive me if they have been addressed already).

1) For a novice grower which decent priced nutrients will give good results? Keep in mind this is the my first grow and I am not looking for something a veteran grower with many moons of wisdom would need.

2) How gradually do I introduce the nutes into the plants? I want to give them all they can handle but I have heard on the newb forums that the most common mistake a new grower makes is getting over zealous. I dont want yellow curly leaves

3) I know that you switch nutes when changing from veg / bud so you just make the change over night or do you gradually decrease the veg nutes and increase the bud nutes or do you flush like you do before harvest then start with budding nutes?

4) I have heard alot about big bud (or something like that) that you can add to make the buds bigger. Is this used on top of nutes or in place of. If it is used with nutes, do you use the same amount or do you reduce the nutes when using it? And does it lower the TCH concentration.

5) After going from cloning to veg, can I put the plants into big containers or do I need a medium sized veg pot? I understand it will be more water (and more than likely - more nutes) I will use and I'm ok with that if it will help the plants grow healthier or bigger.

Sorry for the long list of complicated questions, I just want my 1st grow to go as smoothly as possible and I'm terrified of fucking up good MJ. I have a feeling that some of this depends on my grow room construction so check my grow journal for how my setup is going to be constructed. http://www.rollitup.org/grow-journals/184470-very-detailed-journal-empty-room.html

-If you can get your hands on Foxfarm that would be great. They're not very expensive, and they work very well.

2) How gradually do I introduce the nutes into the plants? I want to give them all they can handle but I have heard on the newb forums that the most common mistake a new grower makes is getting over zealous. I dont want yellow curly leaves
-You shouldn't give any nutrients for the first 3 or four weeks since you plant it. It'll use the nutrients in the soil. After that, when you start giving nutrients always give 1/4 strength and don't give nutrients every watering. Plain water, nutrient mix, plain water, plaint water, nutrient mix...It's always better to underfeed than overfeed. Trust me!

3) I know that you switch nutes when changing from veg / bud so you just make the change over night or do you gradually decrease the veg nutes and increase the bud nutes or do you flush like you do before harvest then start with budding nutes?
- Refer to your nutrient chart. But you should be ok with just switching overnight. But don't overfeed!(Again!)

4) I have heard alot about big bud (or something like that) that you can add to make the buds bigger. Is this used on top of nutes or in place of. If it is used with nutes, do you use the same amount or do you reduce the nutes when using it? And does it lower the TCH concentration.
-I don't think it reduces the THC content, it just swells the buds. A better option to make the buds bigger would be 2 tablespoons of mollasses in 1 gallon of water. It's organic and very good for your plants, and is known to swell the buds upto 20% more. And it also sweetens the taste of the overall product!

5) After going from cloning to veg, can I put the plants into big containers or do I need a medium sized veg pot? I understand it will be more water (and more than likely - more nutes) I will use and I'm ok with that if it will help the plants grow healthier or bigger.
-It really is up to you, the bigger the container, the more room the plant's roots will grow, causing the plant to grow bigger!
You should only water when the soil is dry at about 2-3 inches deep. Get a moisture meter or just stick your finger in 2-3 inches and feel it. If its wet or moist, it could go another day or two. If dry, then water.

Good luck with your grow bro and I hope everything goes good for you!

Cheers

DaBeatGoezOn pretty much covered it but also for water you can kinda get a feel by wheight, your pots will be different when wet and dry(youl get the feel of it in a couple weeks at most)
and when you first transplant your clones into soil depending on your soil it yor plants will use up the nutes either faster or slower
also when switching from veg to flower keep given the plant a small amount of veg nutes to keep the plants green a lil longer during flower but be careful not to over nute when you mix both
and big bud you use in addition to your nutes and it should say how much to give when combined with other nutes
for container size you want the plants to have room for roots but not too much room to where the roots arent forming a nice root ball, you can always transplant into a bigger container if you feel your plants out growing its current one
any more questions ask and well help, good luck man

Go here and find something in your price range. If you use miracle grow or any like soil, forget about nutes during veg.

2) How gradually do I introduce the nutes into the plants? I want to give them all they can handle but I have heard on the newb forums that the most common mistake a new grower makes is getting over zealous. I dont want yellow curly leaves
Mix your nutes in gallon milk jugs of PH'd water starting at 1/4th recommended dosage. It will seem like you are giving them nothing, but trust me on this one. I have my plants in 2gal containers and give them about 12 ounces of water each watering.

3) I know that you switch nutes when changing from veg / bud so you just make the change over night or do you gradually decrease the veg nutes and increase the bud nutes or do you flush like you do before harvest then start with budding nutes?
When you switch the lights to 12/12, continue with the grow nutes for the first week, then switch to bloom or flower nutes and introduce them the same way as # 2

4) I have heard alot about big bud (or something like that) that you can add to make the buds bigger. Is this used on top of nutes or in place of. If it is used with nutes, do you use the same amount or do you reduce the nutes when using it? And does it lower the TCH concentration.
Dont worry about this right now. You already said you want to keep it simple and now your asking for advanced techniques to improve results. You'll do fine sticking to the basics. You'll most likely make noob mistakes by looking to tweek things.

5) After going from cloning to veg, can I put the plants into big containers or do I need a medium sized veg pot? I understand it will be more water (and more than likely - more nutes) I will use and I'm ok with that if it will help the plants grow healthier or bigger.
2 gal containers will give you totally respectable results under the right conditions.

I have a feeling that some of this depends on my grow room construction so check my grow journal for how my setup is going to be constructed. VERY DETAILED JOURNAL - from empty room to the finished product
Hope this helped out and grow it dank

Thanks everyone - I had been wondering about the molasses and forgot to ask here so I appreciate the info. Do you give every 3rd watering like with nutes? Or every watering...

I'll definately post links to my grow journal once I get going!!!!

me personally i do every other watering with nutes but that also has to do with how strong of nutes you give them

how strong do you use them? i'm guessing "1/4 strength" means 1/4 of what the directions tell you to use...

Make it completely EASY on yourself and get Technaflora's Recipe for Success!

It has all the stuff you need and some stuff you don't really need but it is PERFECT for beginners. It has a feeding chart and is great for both Hydro and Soil applications. You can find it on ebay for $32 I think.

I am not advertising Technaflora and there are better nutrients out there for more $$$ but for a beginner this will help you understand all the little ins and outs of providing food for your plants.

Easy to follow and is a 3 part feeding with extras so you will know exactly what does what, what NPK you think works well, etc.

This with an accurate/ detailed grow journal will get you into the swing of things and allow you to know what to look for in the future in case you want to try other brands of nutes

Good Luck!
