Question Summer solstice
Do any of you have experience relating to planting and solstice?

I have read that planting on or after solstice leads to plants finishing flowering before ones planted before then...

I'd like to get some more confirmation, as the current weather pattern indicates that it will be realy hot by then and hard to start new seeds.

I believe there is also an optimal lunar phase, the moon here basicaly starts going smaller on solstice... (not sure of the english term now, I always swap them). If i understood correct this is optimal for plants that grow mostly above the soil, like the thing that stinks.

That just doesn't sound right to me. That would cut your veg time in half. When the sun hits the autumn equinox the plants go into flower mode no matter when they were planted.

It would make sense for plants started before the solstice to notice the daylight, increases for a while, and then reduces daily...

Think they will skip veg stage if days gets shorter all they way from planting?

Our summers are pretty long.

But if you'd be so kind, I am only finding planting times for northern hemisphere. I have no idea what the optimal time is for planting in the south...

Spring starts in Sept. (officialy), but winter lasted till almost the end of october this year.

Would the time, plants drop their seeds in nature be an appropriate time to plant... or how do they survive?

Hi there, no, I am in the southern hemisphere... in Cape Town in South Africa.

I went and did some more research this morning... luckliy there is quite a bit of cultivation information out there...

It would seem to stimulate growth, the light period needs to grow over the first 2/3ds of the lifecycle, and then reduced...

Our Spring starts in Sept, but this year it just kept on raining unil the begining of november, the transition from spring to summer was probably 1 month... hit a nice 30C yesterday and the summer hardly started.

Also we had light frost until the beginning of december in the morning... not sure if our frost is the same as yours... basicaly just looks like lots of condensation on the plants... nothing realy freezes...

I think I'll be more ready for the next season's grow. I will use the time in between to get more of the equipment I need for indoor growing... maybe get my merchant to sponsor the lights...
