I've heard UV-B light stimulates resin production. Can anyone confirm or deny this?

I can not confirm this, because I haven't actually done it! But I have read "very credible posters" who claim to have had noticible improvements in resin production with only about 20-30 minutes of UV-b light exposure per light cycle. Others have run the UV-b lights for the full 12 hour cycle and get, roughly, the same results.
Now, this being said, this additional resin doesn't neccessarily make the bud more potant! Appearantly the "extra frosting" is just some sort of "Sunscreen Resin" that doesn't boost the THC content that much. I have never come across any "Scientific" explaination for this, so I take it all with a grain of salt! |

I am still under the impression that botanists are at a loss to explain precisely what THC does for the plant (I have come across some bizaar theories!). Also, I believe that the amount of resin production and the % of THC content are two seperate considerations (I'll have to check on that - I know it is a rather controversial topic!). |

Here is an interesting video on you tube. I think it may clear up some things with good explanations.
I also get a kick out of this guy. hehehehe YouTube - THC, UVB and Me Triump |

marijuana Resin & THC An Excerpt from marijuana Grower's Insider's Guide Resin itself, or an abundance of resin glands, is not a good indictator of potency. A mj variety may have copious amounts of resin and still be nearly worthless for smoking; another variety may have little apparent resin, but it may be super-potent. This is because much of the resin is made up of inactive ingredients, and the resin might contain mostly inactive cannaboids. Also, the active cannaboids (THC,THCV, etc.) are only necessary in amounts small enough that they may not be major components in the resin. Surprisingly, the few scientific studies that have compared the concentration of resin glands or resin to potency have found that the concentration of resin glands was negatively correlated with the potency (in other words, the fact that a variety of mj is resinous or has a lot of resin glands has little to do with its potency) Experience connoissers actually may look for a non-resinous but very potent variety - who needs cough inducing resin if it doesn't add to the high? What this article is explaining is, pretty much, what I was talking about when I said: "Now, this being said, this additional resin doesn't neccessarily make the bud more potant! Appearantly the "extra frosting" is just some sort of "Sunscreen Resin" that doesn't boost the THC content that much." Meanwhile, I'm still searching to see if the "Rocket Scientists" really know what the hell THC is really meant for! Last edited by T.H.Cammo; 11-13-2008 at 06:21 PM.. |
