Hybrid vigor. Females grown from seed are often higher yielding than clones

so what does that mean if i buy some fem.seeds and chose a mother plant from which im gona take clones for my sog how much does my yeild differ compared if i used plants from seeds which is much more expencive, and if i take a clone and develope it into a new mother plant from which again i can take clones are does clones even weaker then the original ones, are they weaker whit every generation or is it the same as the first cloning from the seed plant

The clones you take later will be the same as the very first clone you took. The first clone will not be as strong as the plant you took that clone from however.

Not enough to matter, The only way you should even worry about vigor is if your taking clones from clones that came from a clone basically, clones from a mother that was a seed aren't gonna be that noticeable nor are you going to honestly care, if you take a clone off a plant than flower that plant, then take a clone from that clone and flower clone 1, than take a clone from clone 2, thus making clone 3, each time will degrade

I'm doing a continual harvest like that but haven't gotten that far so I'm hoping your wrong. It would be really helpful if you had a reason for saying this. You would think that all cloned plants would be equal regardless of generation because it's all the same DNA, although there could be a hormone or something that is difficult to produce if the plant is not started from seed or something, I don't know.

i'm a noob, so I have no empirical anecdotes...but I heard the degredation theory had been disproven.

I'll see if I can dig that up...

Jorge Cervantes has a book or two on marijuana horticulture...I found, in a chapter on vegging, Jorge talking about mother plants and clones of mothers...and how he knew a cat who'd cloned a clone out more than 20 generations with no loss of potency or vigor of the clone.

This is cool to me, as I imagine to keep two mothers (different strains) and when she gets old and saggy, I can clone her one last time, then throw her in to veg for all she's worth...the clones offa her will be grown out and the best can be the new queen...for a while.

I also imagine to just clone off my feminized PPP grown from seed, that way I can realize the hybrid vigor in bud...and still have the strain in my stable.

So you can grow your girl out, clone her, then select the best clone as your mother, and still get your first plant into flower.

If I'm off, I welcome the correction. I feel pretty good about that cloning a clone info, tho. I'm going to try it in my grow, and if it's poop, I'll revisit this thread and tell you myself.

Peace.

Well, I have seen the degradation of a strain due to improper cloning practices. When you clone, only choose the healthiest of plants and the best of shoots. Sometimes it is hard to cut off the best part of the plant, but do it.

Many I know believe it actually gets stronger with proper cloning practices over many years. Always cut a fresh, fast growing limb on your best and healthiest plant. Never attempt to cut from a pre-flowering limb or one currently in a dormant stage or slow growth phase in any way. They will still root, maybe a few days slower but they lose that contstant vigor you can acheive through practice, timing and skill.

Any way, thats what I have found. Just one guys oppinion.

personally, i would rather shave 2 weeks off my continual harvest rather than get an extra 2 grams a plant
two weeks extra from seed to realize hybrid vigor and additional weight, vs. possibly one extra flower cycle per year for the whole room... hmmm.

You make an interesting point...I will have to meditate on this. :eyesmoke:

Congrats on not smoking, also. I'm quitting...again. I've been taking oxygen breaks to keep with my routine of wanting to 'be' outside smoking... I can still be outside with intention, but the focus has changed from one of self pollution to one of self affirmation.

Sometimes I even pantomime hitting a cig all deep...but it's just oxygen. It doesn't make me want one any less, but I know it's at least not killing me (and my wallet...$4+ a pack...ouch!) so quickly.

Peace.

Off Topic- lol @ $4 for 20 cigs, it's nearer $10 in the U.K. I buy mine online now nearly half the price!:peace:
