A friend of mine has a mother plant kind of.. Its a higher generation clone who's genetics have been passed around for quite some in a circle of ppl who really don't know anything about growing..
This one seems like its decently healthy, its about 6" tall, with a good root system.. Older growth is healthy and normal looking, but the newer growth is odd.. New leaves are only forming 3 lobes per leaf, and only the central lobe is even serated along its margins, the other lobes look alot like cotyledons, or embryonic seedling leaves.. Actually I think some might even be starting to form single lobed leaves..
There doesn't seem to be any male flowers, but its small and bushy and hard to see detail to that extent..
In the event that this doesn't herm, what is the likely performance of a plant acting like this as compared to its unmutated state? Has anybody ever flowered one of these mutants out? I'm just thinking that if it does continue on this path, it will hardly resemble a pot plant, and could blend in with field weeds perfectly..

i have two down stairs right now. havent flowered yet. but my are like that because i took the clippings after i started flowering.

I really assumed that may have been a factor.. This plant inevitably went through that I imagine.. Like I said, its been cloned and re-cloned by novelty growers who wouldn't go through the effort of keeping a mother, so probably more than once in its lineage from seed its attempted to flower..
It really would be sweet if this isn't detrimental to production because if this keeps going as it is, come next spring it will hardly be recognizable as marijuana..

I'm just learning how to clone. How far into flowering (maybe not described so much in terms of time, but in terms of how much bud/flower growth?) were your plants when you took the cuttings? Also, where are your preferred cutting locations when you're working with a flowering plant? I read to take the growing tips, and these are where my future buds are growing. Such a dilemma, because what I really want to do, my urge, is to take the lower branches that also aren't as fully developed.

What say you two? (Or anyone who's accomplished at taking clones)

Sounds like the phenotype is way out there right now. After a plant has been cloned so many times, genetic drift is inevitable. Sends pics if you can.

Yea, I'll look into getting pics.. I won't see the guy who has it for a few days though because of his work schedule..
Seamaiden, under growth is fine for cloning.. Most important thing is to do it sooner than later, and hope for the best.. I don't know much about how this clone came to be at all.. Pics and details from Dr Greenthumb would be nice..
Its funny though that this has never come up before considering alot of ppl clone while in flowering..

And yet I always read that it's impossible or atrocious or just plain unthinkable to clone whilst flowering.

I've done it before and it worked as far as rooting but it took forever to revert back to the veg cycle. Like a month or so.

Ive cloned up to 4 weeks into flower with success. also if the clone was taken after flower, it will reveg and start by growing fewer bladed leaves, even up to single bladed leaves for a node or two. i pick my lower branches for clones, or if i top the plant i will also use the top.
