Yes, but considering the lumens per watt, the possibility of keeping the ballast external, and the price, I can't see using CFL for any application that uses more than 150W equivalent of HID.
For very small grows or for maintaining a mother or two, fluorescents are fine. Anyway, that was not the point of this thread. God forbid we turn another thread into CFL vs. HID.
