Every time I see an article like this, I have to laugh my ass off. Norquist got his wish. Democracy - and at least several thousand people, most of them Democrats, black, and poor - drowned last week in the basin of New Orleans. Our nation failed in its response, because for most of the past 25 years conservatives who don't believe in governance have run our government. The disaster in New Orleans was first, a natural disaster. Bush/Conservatives didn't cause it. Second, the corrupt local government (all Democrats) failed their constituency. Third, The state government (run by Democrats) failed their constituency. Forth, building a city below sea level in an area prone to hurricanes is just plain stupid. Fifth, depending on a behemoth like the federal government to take responsibility for your life is inviting disaster. Sixth, under what, and how many administrations were the levees built and maintained? What responsibility lays at the feet of the Army Corp of Engineers? Seven, Why was the mayor of New Orleans reelected? Doesn't speak too highly of the intelligence of the locals down there, does it? Eight, the author is obviously a left-wing-whacko. If he weren't, he'd know that conservatives believe in government, but not a government that makes us slaves to it, nor one who strips the mindset of personal responsibility from the citizens and replaces it with a total entitlement mentality.
