I'll give you 10 shots and bet you a thousand bucks you can't hit it. A 1/4 mile is 1350 ft, have you been to a 1/4 mile drag race lately, add 150 ft onto that distance and try and imagine hitting a watermellon with open sights, NFW. BTW, a target 1/5 the width of the front blade would be real hard to hit. I fired 247 out of a possible 250, the highest score in my batallion with an M-14. a beautiful weapon. That means I got 3 outside the bulls-eye in the 4 ring.
I don't think you could out shoot me with a rifle or a handgun, as i'm very good with eather. I have 2 BARs in 30-06 that will shoot close to an MOA a few bolts that will shoot sub MOAs and a super match M1A that will shoot sub MOAs, and the reason that I have the M1A is because of the M14s that I shot in training.
Marines had the x rings bulls-eyes, in the army there was no such thing when I was in. As I stated we shot silhuettes the close up were head & shoulder the long range were about 2ft. by 4 1/2ft. I could be wrong about meters it could have been yards but I don'tthink so as I never thuoght of meters intill the army. Maps were in 10 meter grids as were most things that I can remember. I qualifyed every time as expert with the M14, M79, M60 and the LAW, the only weapon that didn't was the 1911-45 and the slide was so loose that it would rattle and that was as a sharpshooter.
Med I have read what you have said of your weapons and you seem to be mostly correct as for as you go BUT I think you are a long way from an expert in the feild.

I have wandered for a long time if the marines are the same as the army the top is expert then sharpshooter and the lowest is marksman, is this the same?

The manlicker carcano was a military rifle. I also seem to remember that Oswalds longest shot was less than 80 yards.
