I'll give you 10 shots and bet you a thousand bucks you can't hit it. A 1/4 mile is 1350 ft, have you been to a 1/4 mile drag race lately, add 150 ft onto that distance and try and imagine hitting a watermellon with open sights, NFW. BTW, a target 1/5 the width of the front blade would be real hard to hit. I fired 247 out of a possible 250, the highest score in my batallion with an M-14. a beautiful weapon. That means I got 3 outside the bulls-eye in the 4 ring.
The marine corps quals at 500 yards and they did that back in the 60's too, I just got out 3 years ago, I also was a marksmanship instructor so I have spent many hot days out at the range, bootcampers can shoot at 500yards!. Dude your totally wrong on this. and you shot that well in the 60's you should be able to shoot 500 yards that well too, BTW the max effective range of M-16 on a point target is 550 meters and the max on a an area target is 800 meters, and the blade on the front sight is about the same with as 500 yrd target .....................and PS so Oswald shot was still impossible with scoped rifle at less than a 100 yards let me say it again 100 yards
