Recirculating hydroponic systems allow you to get more oxygen to the roots than in soil or wick pots/hempy buckets. This promotes quick and vigorous development of the rootmass- the rest of the plant will follow. The more O2 to the roots, the better, whilst still keeping them moistened, of course.

However, bongspit is too right if commenting on DWC/bubbler ops. They ARE in big trouble should AC power be lost (or if the air pump fails or bubble curtain clogs with nute residue) as roots are constantly submerged and require a 24/7 air feed.
