How are you testing the pH of the soil? By the run-off?

I am testing the soil pH with a soil pH meter... it's usually right around 7.0-7.3... the water has been pH downed to 6.1-6.5 when I watered... and speaking of watered I did water yesterday evening and I am bummed she's still kinda drooped over...
One funny thing I noticed yesterday before I watered is that it seemed to perk up when the lights shut off for their 6 hours... the moisture meter this morning didn't show that it was soaked or anything, in fact it was just right... any more ideas?
