the thing with cfls, that are not specificaly used for plant growth, is that they tend to make your plants stretch and the buds are a little less dense, when flowering, your plant will continue to grow, but most energy will be used to make the buds. right now your best to stay on an 18/6 light schedule. if you don't want your plants to be tall simply top them when you start your flowering cycle or a week before, you should not top once budding starts. you can also look into lsting (low stress training) or scroging your lil guys, this will definatly maximize space. once you start your flowering your locking in your yield, you could revert back to veg after flowering, but you can run the rist of light shock which can, but rarely leads to herming out plants.
there are people who use the "no mercy" method of growing, do a forum search on this to see people who grow 12/12 all the way through
