The "little hairs" aren't trichomes. Trichomes are the sugary looking things on your buds. Seeing as how you are going with tube flourescents I would probably use 75% brown hairs as a good barometer if they are done or not yet. If you want to get down and dirty you can buy a $10 magnifying lens from radioshack.
