The entire T and number is an old measurment of the thickness of the glass of the bulb the lower the number the thinner the glass. the thinner the glass the more effiencant.

No it isn't. It has to do with the circumference of the bulb. A t-5 is 5 1/8's of an inch in diameter, a t-8 is 1" or 8/8's, etc.
