the part about counterfeiting really caught my eye though:

To provide for the Punishment of counterfeiting the Securities and current Coin of the United States;

are there any "securities and current coin" of the US? i mean, the fed reserve issues our printed currency. they do still make Coins at the US Mint but bills are not really a security of the United States, they are a security of the Fed Reserve - an un-audited, un-checked private company. what does that mean in terms of punishment? is it a civil problem when you print your own counterfeit dollars or a criminal one?? is it legally counterfeiting or just a trademark/copyright infringement?
