So you measured the HPS light from outside the glass/heat shield and the CFLs just next to the bulb with no glass/heat shield? Sorry if I misunderstood anything you said, but if I'm not mistaken, this seems rather pointless in the sense of proving that HPS run cooler than CFLs. I'm sure if you put a plate of glass in front of those CFLs, just like the HPS light has, they would read a lot cooler too. I'm a little baked right now, but this is how it seems to me. Please correct me if I'm wrong and I mean no disrespect, it is just that this test seems skewed.
