the shells are made of calcium carbonate, got some phosphate and magnesium in there too. i used them on the tomatoes this year to see if it would prevent end rot caused by calcium shortage. actually, i put a dozen or so in a blender with water and poured it around the base of affected plants.. didn't help.

some people swear by them. could be something you have to do on a regular basis to get results...
