An Ethical Pot Question

I wanna poll you guys on an interesting question that came up for a group of us this year.
I am posting it in this forum because it seemed the most appropriate of those offered.
We were hiking through public land and found an untended guerilla grow. All of us agreed that we would never sneak onto private property and steal somebody's crop; but our little group argued for days about the ethics of snatching up untended plants on public land.
What do you think?
