Side shoots can be cloned, and often have a higher success rate.

You can clone in a cup of water. Just change the water daily and make sure the area which will grow new roots is kept dark, the cup of water needs to be light proof. Lower lighting and higher ambient moisture will make the cloning process less stressful for the cutting.

Look into bubble cloners. They're an easy and very successful technique.
