It all depends on the assholiness of the cop. Some may let you get away with being disrespectful, IE smart assed, some may not. You are much safer in the presence of witnesses. Cops have a way overinflated feeling of self importance and the slightest slight may set them off. I find it easier to be polite to them and avoid the hassles, in fact, avoiding them altogether is the best. That cop can go to the building superintendent, get the name of the person in that apt. and continue to harass them ad infinitum. Thats way more hassle than I'm up for, to each his own. Have you ever noticed when they have a perp face down in the dirt with a 250 lb cop with his knee on the perps neck, two more pulling his arms out of the socket trying to cuff him, they keep yelling, "Quit resisting"? That's strictly for the camera. When the camera is not around, I'm sure some rib shots are going on.
